Abstract
291,323. Busse, O. Dec. 3, 1927, [Convention date]. Cold -rolling.-In the cold rolling of bands or strips cooling liquid is supplied directly to the roll surfaces. Heavy oil or glycerine are preferably employed, but a mixture of oil and water may be used ,and the metal is drawn through the rolls under tension, almost up to the elastic limit, from a winding apparatus. Clamp guides d<1>, d<2> are provided and the oil &c. is supplied by spraying pipes e<1> - - e<4> and a pump h. A trough c returns the oil through a filter (not shown) and a cooler g. In a modification the lower roll dips into the trough and in a further modification both rolls dip into the trough in the latter case the pipes e<1> are dispensed with.
