Abstract

288,724. Callard, T. B. Jan. 13, 1927. Projectiles; gun cartridges.-A projectile adapted to be discharged from a spring-operated pistol or the like, and intended for use in facilitating tracing an escaping criminal, or a stolen car. &c., consists of a fragile envelope 1 containing dye or the like, which is scattered over the person or object hit, the envelope being closed at the rear end by a disc 4 and at the forward end by a bullet-like bulb 5. Preferably the dye is in the form of powder 2, and the bulb 5 is of glass, containing a quick-drying liquid, the purpose of the liquid being to cause the powder to adhere. The Provisional Specification describes also a cartridge for use with an ordirary pistol, the cartridge containing a charge of dye in liquid or powder form. The dye may be contained in a thin vessel of glass &c., which may be protected by a net-like covering.
