Sweating waxes.-Sweating-apparatus comprises an upright preferably cylindrical vessel 6 divided by dished or conical partitions 8 into superposed wax compartments 7 each provided with a gauze or like wax support 11. 12, and with a series of transverse heating &c. coils 10. Wax is admitted through a central pipe 16 and slots therein beneath each support 11, 12, air passing out through pipes 18, a header 17, and a valves 24 in the cover 25. The sweatings and the finished wax are discharged through the slots, the pipe 16, and a valved pipe 42 to a distributing box 43. The wax between the partitions 8 and floors 11, 12 is melted out by steam or hot water from jets 36 on a header 37, or by steam coils; that in the compartments 7 by steam or water from the jets 36, or by steam from pipes 44 at the top of the compartments: and that in the pipe 16 and the headers 37, 17 by steam pipes 21, 40, 20. Preferably, when the compartments have been charged and cooled further liquid wax is admitted through a valve 26, and the header 17 and pipes 18 to fill the compartments completely. The series of coils 10 in each compartment may be relatively staggered to support the wax better, and may be more compact at the bottom of each compartment.
