286,463. Smith Bros. & Co. (Glasgow), Ltd., and Ferguson, A. March 12, 1927. Punching; shearing.-In a machine in which a punch-head 13 is reciprocated through a rocking lever 7 from an eccentric 4 a dwell is provided at the top end of the movement of the punch head. A connecting-rod 1 is secured to the rocking- lever by a piston 5 and a spring- rod 8. A pivoted gag 18 is interposed between the lever 7 and the head 13. On the upward stroke the head 13 is raised by links 17. A pin 15 working in a slot 14 arrests the punch head at the top of its stroke and the spring 9 is then compressed. A shearing machine may be combined with the punching machine.
