Abstract
281,615. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hoxie, C. A.). Dec. 2, 1926, [Convention date]. records, combined photograph and kinematograph. - A combined pictorial and sound record is produced by first producing negatives of the two records on separate films selected as regards the sensitizing emulsion to suit the different nature of the exposures and combining the two negatives on a single positive film. For the picture negative, a. rapid emulsion is necessary in which the sensitive element is in relatively coarse grains. For the sound recorda relatively fine grain sensitive element is employed whereby " ground noises " are avoided. The two negatives are combined on a single film, which may be similar to that of the sound negative, to produce a positive film. One method of effecting this consists in first copying the picture negative 14, Fig. 3, on to the positive film 22 by running these two films together with a transparent film 18 having a blackened strip 19 past a beam of light from a source 23, and then copying the sound negative on the strip previously marked by the strip 19 by again running the positive now associated with the sound negative, and with a film which is blackened opposite to the picture strip past the source 23. A modified form of the apparatus described in Specification 180,296 may be used to produce the sound negative.
