Agglomerating processes; distilling zinc. - A process for the reduction of zinc ores comprises the formation of the ore into sized grains preferably by the means described in Specification 284,248, followed if necessary by drying or baking, and in the case of sulphide ores by roasting on the grate of a blast apparatus, the grains so obtained being charged along with reducing agent, preferably also sized, into retorts for reduction. Calamines may be mixed with pre-roasted sulphide ores before treatment. Oxide ores may be agglomerated by means of water only, and in some cases a drying operation may be dispensed with, for example by the addition of zinc dust and sodium chloride.
