Abstract

270,482. Shaw, H. S. Hele-, and Beacham, T. E. April 26, 1926. Apparatus.-A shock absorbing or controlling device for steering gear &c., of the type operated by hydraulic rams, comprises valve members 1, 2, Figs. 1 and 3, working in cylinders 13, 14, and acted on by a spring 3 disposed between plates 7, 8, and by the pressure in pipes 11, 12, which are connected to hydraulic mechanism for moving the rudder &c. in opposite directions, the springs being compressed before the valves are opened. When the pressure in either pipe reaches a predetermined value, one of the pistons opens a port 4<a> or 4b, and thus places both cylinders into communication through a pipe or passage 5<a> or 5b.
