Paving blocks.-A paving block which has projections and/or recesses on all its edges for interengaging adjacent blocks may be any shape in plan but is rhomboidal in both side and end elevation. Fig. 1 shows one construction which is rectangular in plan and is provided with six projections and recesses b, c, these projections extending from the lower half of the block and three from the upper half. Fig. 3 shows a similar block in which the lower end and right-hand side are bulged at the centre, while the other side and the upper end are correspondingly recessed. This forms an additional interlock to prevent relative movement between the blocks. Fig. 4 shows a block with hookshaped interlocking means which is of rhomboid shape in side and end elevation. This block may be made in two parts with a sliding dove-tailed joint, one part being fixed to the foundation and the other applied subsequently. The part b<1> in this construction may be removed in some cases to allow for lateral movement between the adjacent blocks of a line. Bulbous keys which are rhomboidal to match the blocks are used to connect adjacent blocks when they are provided with recesses only. The blocks may be provided with non-skidding projections on the surface, which may take the form of parallel lines running diagonally, rectangular projections arranged in staggered formation, or lines simulating the imprint of birds' claws.
