Building blocks, special shapes of.-A building block is provided with one or more projections 12 on one face and one or more recesses 13 on the opposite face, and with raised portions 14 about the edges of each of such faces to form relieved surfaces of shallow depth entirely surrounding the recess and projection or each recess and projection. The engagement of a recess by a projection squeezes binding material from the recess into the space formed by the relieved surfaces.
