Abstract

260,373. Blair, R. A. Aug. 15, 1925. Trunks or the like designed to be of variable capacity.-A trunk, suit-case, &c. of variable capacity comprises a bottom portion 1, Fig. 1, slidable within an upper portion 2 open at the top and preferably provided with a pair of lids hinged to the ends and meeting in the centre. The parts are provided with stop-pieces such as 5, 6, 7, Fig. 4, to prevent them being completely separated. The parts are adapted to be held in adjusted position by the means shown in Fig. 2, and comprising a cylindrical bolt 8 suspended from the top of the part 2 and free to move in a tubular guide 9 provided on the lower part 1. The bolt has laterallyprojecting handle and catch members 10, 11, the latter being capable of engaging in one of a series of lateral slots 12 in the wall of the guide 9. A spring 15, designed to maintain the bolt in position with the catch 11 engaging one of the slots, may be provided. To maintain the side walls of the parts 1, 2 in contact a shanked knob or stud 28, Fig. 1. may be provided inside the part 2 to engage an undercut groove 29 in a slotted member provided on the lower part 1.
