Abstract

256,787. Francis, C. E. Aug. 21, 1925. Stitches and seaans; single thread lock stitching; needles, driving; threads, controlling otherwise than in stitch forming; spools, winding. - A lockstitch seam is formed by first making one needle stroke to pass the needle thread 8 through the work, drawing off through the needle-eye and winding on a spool 3 sufficient needle thread for the seam and the stitching in the usual way employing for the under tread the thread so wound on the spool. The seam formed resembles an ordinary lock. stitch seam with the exception that the first stitch 9 has no loose ends. A sewing-machine may be specially adapted for forming this seam by providing a wedging device 23 for scotching theneedle-bar and device 21 for releasing the tension 22 operated by a lever 20. A bobbin winder is disposed close to the loop-taker so as to avoid slack thread and means may be provided for indicating when a required amount of thread hasbeen wound.
