Abstract
254,716. Teves Maschinen-und Armaturenfabrik Ges., A. July 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Rings.-Piston-rings are manufactured at one setting in a lathe by operating on a cast tubular work-piece so as to turn it internally and externally, face the front edge, chamfer the inner edges, and cut off the ring, which is then ready for grinding, hammering and slotting. The cast tubular work-piece 2. Fig. 3, which may be rough or previously machined, is inserted in the hollowspindle of the lathe and is advanced after each ring has been cut off by a slide 39 cam-operated at 37, another cam 40 serving to open and close the chuck through a lever 41. The inner and outer peripheries of the ring are turned by two roughing tools 5, 6, Figs. 4 and 6, and two finishing tools 7, 8, each pair of tools being mounted on a double slide-rest 9, 10 so as to be adjustable to the thickness of ring required. Each slide-rest is separately fed axially by levers 11 - - 14 and cams 17, 18. The ring is cut off by a tool 19<1> carried by a lever 19 operated from a cam on the shaft 15, and is faced on the outer edge by a tool 21<1> operated by a lever 21 and cam 22. The inner edges of the ring are chamfered by a tool 23<1> which acts just before the ring is completely severed and is carried by a lever 23 secured to a shaft 27 which is rocked by a lever 28 and cam 29 and is moved axially by a lever 26 and cam 24. The cam-shafts 15, 16 are rotated by a worm-shaft 30 which also drives the cam 37 directly.
