Abstract

The invention relates to a food blender I comprising a container 2 into which food is placed, and a rotatable blade member 10 adjacent the bottom of the container. The blade member 10 is formed from at least one set of arms 11-13a-b extending radially from a rotatable shaft. A helical cutting/mixing blade extends at an angle from the ends of each arm. The blades may extend at an angle to the norm to each arm and may have serrated edges. The member may have first and second arms spaced on the shaft and helical blades extending from the ends of the first arms to the ends of the second arms.

Description

TiTLE: Food Blender The present invention relates to a food blender.
It is known to provide a food blender in which a container is provided into which food is placed, and a cutting/mixing bhde adjacent the bottom of the container is rotated. The container is often tapers inwardly towards the blade. In use food to be blended is placed in the container, and the blade rotated. The blade normally has three or four arms radiating form a rotating shaft, with each arm supporting cutting edges.
As the hiade rotates, food is cut aiid mixed by the blade with cut blended food forced outwards by the blade towards the container walls. The cut blended food travels up the side wall of the container aiid falls back towards the blade, An air gap is often created directly above the rotating blade leading to cavitation and reduced efficiency of the blending. Also the blade is often rotated at high speed leading the blender being noisy to operate.
The invention seeks to provide a food blender with an improved cutting mixing blade.
According to the present invention there is provided a food blender comprising a container into which food is placed, and a rotatable blade member adjacent the bottom of the container, said blade member being formed from at least one set of arms extending radially from a rotatable shaft, and a helical cutting/mixing blade extending at an angle from the ends of each arm, Preferably the cutting mixing blades extend at an angle substantially normal to each arm.
Preferably the blade member forced food towards the bottom of the container.
The mixing cutting blade may have serrated edges.
In one embodiment the blade member has first and second anns spaced on said shaft and cutting/mixing blades extend from the ends of the first arms to the ends of the second arms, The cutting/mixing blades may be in a helix like configuration. Preferably there are three first arms and three second arms and three cutting/mixing blades, In another embodiment the blade member has arms spaced on said shaft, and a single helical cutting/mixing blade is connected at its centre to the end of each arm.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first embodiment, and Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a second embodiment, Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a food blender 1. Blender 1 comprises a container 2 with a removable lid 2A into which food is placed, and a rotatable blade member 10 adjacent the bottom of the container 2. Container 2 is removably mounted on a housing 3 containing a motor 4 to rotate blade member 10.
Blade member 10 has a first set of three radially spaced arms 11 A, I 2A, I 3A extending radially from one end of a rotatable shaft 14, and a second set of three radially spaced anns II B, I 2B, I 3B extending radially from the other end of a rotatable shaft 14. Three cutting/mixing blades 15,16,17 each with a helical twist of 120° extend from the ends of the first set of arms 1 1A,12A, 1 3A to the ends of the second set of arms 1 lB. 12B, 1 3B. Cutting blades 15,16,17 extend at an angle nonnal to the arms.
In use, the blade member 10 may force food towards the bottom of the container. This creates an even flow of mixing around the container 2 reducing air voids azid cavitation. The three helical blades have an aerofoil effect. The helical blades spread the mixing load over the entire revolution of the blade member 10 thus preventing pulsations and reducing vibration of the blender, and hence noise.
Referring to Figure 2 there is shown a food blender 1. Blender 1 comprises a container 2 with a removable lid 2A into which food is placed, and a rotatable blade member 20 adjacent the bottom of the container 2. Container 2 is removably mounted on a housing 3 containing a motor 4 to rotate blade member 20.
Blade member 20 has a set of three radially spaced arms 21 A,22A,23A extending radially from one end of a rotatable shaft 24. Three helical cutting/mixing blades 25,26,27 are each connected at its centre to the end of each arm. Three cutting/mixing blades 25,26,27 are at an angle substantially normal to the ends of each arm 21A,22A,23A. In use, the blade member 10 may force food towards the bottom of the container. This creates an even flow of mixing around the container 2 reducing air voids and cavitation, and hence noise.
The mixing/cutting blades 15,16,17 or 25,26,27 may have serrated edges.
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
