Abstract

A mattress for a child or baby comprising a base portion, a, and two side portions, b and c, attached to the base portion wherein the side portions are arranged so that there angle can be changed with respect to the base portion. This may be achieved through the use of hinges to attach the base to the sides and a plurality of toggles and cord tethers to support the sides. The device is designed to allow a range of different body and head positions when an infant is positioned on it and to prevent flat head syndrome. The device may have a plastic base with a sponge layer and a cotton covering.

Description
DILMAT Mattress Invention is designed to help prevent Flat Head Syndrome, or otherwise known as Positional Plagiocephaly, in babies aged 0- 6 months or to help to correct the misshapen skull of baby's with this syndrome.
The number of infants with Flat Head Syndrome in UK and US has increased since the 1994 "Back to sleep" campaign, where Doctors recommended babies would steep on their backs, not stomachs as previously.
Whilst flattened head is mainly a cosmetic issue, in worst cases it can lead to mental and physical health problems.

The DILMAT Mattress is made out of plastic and its base is the size of an average Moses basket base (size can be changed).
The mattress consists of 3 sections and 2 of the sides can fold to create different angles -these different angles allow the body to be moved from side to side and thus distribute pressure to select areas, thereby allowing the skull bone pressure to be adjusted. Both sides of (a) top of a mattress can be adjusted manually time after time, allowing different angles (figure 1).

  1. Claims 1. DILMAT Mattress consists of 3 parts: Base -(figure 1, a) and 2 side parts -b and c (figurel).
  2. 2. 2 side parts (figure 1, b and C) can fold, creating different angles, allowing body and head to be turned from side to side, thereby distributing pressure evenly.
  3. 3. Plastic base (figure 1, a) with side parts (figure 1, b and c) are covered with soft, sponge layer and then permanent cotton. On the top of that Cotton covers which can be removed* and washed.
