Abstract

Vacuum tubes. - An electrodesupporting tube 4, open at its inner end, is sealed into, or forms an extension of, the stem 3 of a thermionic valve, and has near its inner end diametrically opposite holes for securing a supporting device. A coaxial extension of the tube 4 may be employed in exhausting and sealing the bulb: it may be integral with the tube 4 before sealing into the stem, being constricted at 13 in readiness for sealing off. The tube 4 may support a filament-tensioning spring 10, hooked on to a wire which passes through the two lateral holes in the tube and is bent around the outside of the tube or otherwise secured. An anode may be supported from a band clamped on to the stem 3, a grid being similarly supported from a stem situated at the opposite end of the bulb and containing the leading-in wires of the filament.
