Abstract
250,313. Immers, J.-B. Jan. 7, 1925. Aeroplanes; helicopters; propelling.-A flying machine is provided with one or more pairs of oppositely-rotated intermeshing sustaining elements having their axes extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the machine and each comprising a number of radiallyarranged plane surfaces. In the arrangement shown a pair of such rotary elements 1 are mounted on shafts 2 carried by supports 8 above the wings 6. According to a modification two pairs of rotary elements are mounted symmetrically one on either side of the fuselage between the wings 6. In another modification the rotary elements are made of such size that the wings 6 may be dispensed with. The individual plane surfaces of the rotary elements may be replaced by rows of paddle-like surfaces. The shafts 2 of the pairs may be slightly divergent towards the rear of the machine and the plane surfaces of which the rotary elements 1 are formed may be given a very elongated helicoid shape.
