Abstract
A device for playing a throwing game comprising a hole opening into which at least two sets of balls are thrown, the holes leading to a collection bowl or point 16. The device may comprise a rectangular box enclosure for pipes 18 with cuts on either side of rectangular box enclosure results in a shape similar to an Ibeam, the circular top end enclosure 1, attaches to the pipes enclosure. The device can be mounted on wheels 12. The device can include an electronic scoreboard 4 mounted in a curved housing 11. The holes can include nets 5 which lead to pipes that return the balls to the collection point. The nets may include motion sensors and the top end enclosure can be circular or star shaped.
Description
DESCRI PTION
This invention relates to devices, called throw in platform for playing a leisure game aptly named -Throw in.
Throw in is an engaging single or multi player outdoor or indoor leisure game. A player would throw a bouncy ball by hand into a net inserted in a hole, cut into the circular or star shaped end of a playing platform. Each net hole scores a player a specific point; the net hole further out carries the highest point. The player with the highest scored point after an agreed upon round wins the game.
The throw in platform is of two designs; the first design is the rectangular box like platform with a circular top end and the second design is the supported platform with a star shaped top end enclosure.
The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Design one' shows a drawing of the entire playing platform of throw in with it electronic scoreboard, Figure 2 Design two' shows a drawing of the entire playing platform of throw in with it electronic scoreboard, Figure 3 shows a cut-out section of the design one platform to reveal the piping system designed to ensure return of balls into the collection bowl.
Figure 4 shows a cut-out section of the design two platform to reveal the piping system designed to ensure return of balls into the collection bowl.
The two platforms are designed as shown figure 1 and figure 2; the platform 2 sits on roller wheels 12 for ease of movement and these wheels have brakes to keep the platform fully stationary during play. The circular and star shaped enclosures consists of five holes, three vertical and two horizontal when viewed face down.
The top end enclosure 1 has holes cuts in with net 5 inserted; these nets are then attached to pipes 6 with holes also cut out at the point of attachment. Each hole has a protrusion 8 with its middle painted red to helps the players aim better, around the holes are elastic black rubber strips 7 that helps to hold the nets in place. The motion sensors are just located beneath these holes.
The pipes are held in place by means of stands 17, circle clips 14 are fastened unto these stands, and they can be adjusted vertically. The base of the rectangular boxlike enclosure and the top end enclosures has angled protrusions 13 at equal spaced intervals that the stands sits on, they help keep the pipes slant in the direction of required ball flow, so the balls rolls seamlessly to the collection bowl 16.
The external pipes 9 for throw in platform design two sits on stands on wheels 17, at their exit from the top end enclosure, the internal pipes 6 are positioned at an angle ten degrees from the horizontal.
The throw in game play setup consists of a total of 25 bouncy balls, each set of 5 balls are of the same colour, there are five colours in total, namely Red, Blue, Pink, Green and Yellow.
The electronic score board 4 is designed as shown; the scoreboard is inserted inside a slop board 3, that sits on a stand 11 with wheels, the entire score board housing unit could be moved from it position at the platform top end, 10 make the game play more intense by making it harder 10 aim for the nets holes. When the score board housing unit is in place as show on figure 1 and figure 2, the throw in balls rebounds off the stop board when a player misses the net hole, the balls bounces of the board onto the ground close to the platform.
The balls may bounce back into a net hole to score a player the corresponding points. The electronic scoreboard is designed to be removed from it stand and stored indoor to prevent damage from bad weather when the game device is not in use for a prolonged period.
The throw in platform design two' setup is fully detachable for storage when it's not in use for prolonged period, the wooden platform 2 is joined at it midpoint with hinges 15, this makes it foldable. It sits on stands on wheel 17, which screw into it from its underside. The two side pipes 9 are removable from the star shaped top end enclosure 1 and from the balls collection bowl 16 bottom end. The circle clip 14 attached to each stands on wheels to hold the pipes are also removable. These parts can then be easily stored and reattached when needed.
To begin play, each player is given a set of 5 balls of the same colour, the numbers of players and the agreed upon numbers of round by the players is inputted into the electronic scored board by means of buttons situated on it's front.
For the purpose of this description, a three round game is assumed. The first player begins the game play and throws one of his balls into any of the net holes on the top end enclosure, the net holes are fitted with motion sensors that detects movement, hence for each successful throw made by the players, the electronic score board is programmed to score each player the point corresponding to the net hole which is then displayed on the score board screen, the ball rolls through the pipes 9 and arrives at the collection bowl 16.
The first player is allowed three consecutive throws, after which the second player is allowed three consecutive throw and so on, till the last player. These three throws are the first turn of the first round, at the second turn of the first round the first player is then allowed to throw his remaining two balls consecutively. The first round ends after all the players have thrown their five balls apiece.
The second round begins just as the first round, the only difference of this round is the naming of turns, i.e. first turn of second round and second turn of second round and the naming continues in similar manner for the next and final round the third round i.e. first turn of third round and second turn of third round.
The third round is typically the decider round, but if there is a draw, the electronic score board automatically alerts the players to free throws, the players may decide to continue or end the game a draw.
If the players do continue, then they must each throw five balls into the furthest net hole the hardest to score in, but in this draw situation the throws are not consecutive instead each player makes a throw one after the other until they make five throw apiece. A successful throw in is scored as one point, after five throws if no winner is found, then the game rule of sudden death in determining a winner ensues.
