Abstract
A screen for a window comprises a substantially rectangular length of sheet 1 which is foldable in concertina fashion and attachment means 5 for connecting the sheet 1 to the surface of the window. The attachment means are preferably a series of suction cups which are secured to the blind via holes adjacent to an edge. Preferably the blind is manufactured from cardboard or plastic. The folds preferably are lateral extending folds or lines of weakness allowing the blind to be folded. The screen may be cut to size and may include pictures or images printed on it (Figure 2). When unneeded, the screen may be folded for storage.
Description
Privacy Screen
Field of the invention
This invention relates to privacy screens.
Backgronnd to the invention Screens are used to shield areas from view. Known screens include free standing screens and screens for fixing to the ground. Sometimes the screens are solely for the purpose of shielding an area from view but also known screens may have other purposes such as to prevent access to an area, an example being the solid fencing round a building site.
Windows and houses and other buildings may or may not be provided with curtains or blinds. However, even when they are provided with such arrangements, it is often the case that the curtains or blinds need to be taken down for cleaning or repair. In other cases the windows are not provided with curtains or blinds and yet it may be desired from time to time to shield the interior from view from the outside.
Statements of the invention
According to the present invention there is provided a privacy screen for a window comprising a substantially rectangular length of sheet which is foldable in concertina fashion and having means for attaching the sheet to the surface of a window.
Preferably, the sheet is made of cardboard or plastics material.
Preferably, the sheet is elongate and divides into substantially equal area or non-equal sections separated by laterally extending lines of weakness allowing the sheet to be folded about said lines.
Preferably the sheet has a length enabling it to extend across a plurality of adjacent window panes.
Preferably, the sheet has a width such that, with its lower edge located at the bottom of one or more adjacent window panes, the upper edge is located such that the screen prevents sight of a person standing within a room where the window pane(s) are situated.
Preferably, the means for attaching the sheet to the surface or window comprise spaced apart holes extending along the sheet adjacent an edge thereof The means for attaching the sheet to the surface of a window may additionally include suction pad devices for locating within said holes.
Brief description of the drawings
The accompanying drawings are as follows:-Figure 1 shows a privacy screen in accordance with the present invention positioned adjacent a window; Figure 2 shows a further privacy screen in accordance with the present invention located adjacent a window.
Detailed description of the invention
Referring to Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings, a privacy screen 1 in accordance with the present invention comprises a rectangular, elongate sheet of material which may be made of any suitable material. For example, it may be made of cardboard or a plastics material. Suitable cardboard materials are plain corrugated cardboard, coated corrugated cardboard, plain (un-corrugated) cardboard, and coated (un-corrugated) cardboard.
Screen 1 is provided with fold lines which extend transversally across the width of screen 1 and may be formed by creating lines of weakening in the screen by folding or in some other way.
Adjacent one of the long edges of screen 1, at spaced apart intervals therealong, are a plurality of holes 5 which when the screen is in use, may have suction pad devices (not shown) extending therethrough.
As illustrated in Figure 1, screen 1 may be used to screen the whole or part of a window arrangement 7 having one or more panes of glass. Where the window arrangement is provided with a sill 9 it may be free standing on this sill as illustrated in Figure 1. Where is necessary to attach the screen to the window in order to keep it in place, then suction pads located in holes 5 may be used.
The screen 1 may be of a size suitable to fit most residential window units. However, where necessary, it may be cut to size in order to fit a different window arrangement.
The screen does not have to extend the full height of any window arrangement but merely of sufficient height to enable the interior to be screened from sight.
Referring to Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings there is illustrated a screen similar to that shown in Figure 1 except that it is provided with a picture/graphics 11 printed thereon.
Screens in accordance with the present invention can be provided with or without graphics, and the sheet may be a plain cardboard sheet, a white/off white cardboard or plastics sheet or a coloured sheet.
It should be appreciated that, when not in use, a privacy screen in accordance with the present invention may be folded up and stored away for future use.
