Abstract
248,218. Hoy, A. Y. May 13, 1925. Coal-cutting machines.-A mining-machine of the swinging-jib type comprises a jib adjustably fixed by means of a bolt or the like set in two registering apertures, one in the jib and one in the part to which it is pivoted, these apertures being in Vernier relationship to each other, i.e. being of different pitch, in order to facilitate fine adjustment. Fig. 1 shows a device wherein bolt holes 12 are arranged in concentric arcs in a brake drum 8 and a plate 11 beneath it; the jib 2 is set by inserting a pin 13 in the two holes which are in register. In a modification, there being no brake drum, the apertures are made in a part 6 and in the plate 11. In another modification, the apertures are made, in one arc, in the top plate overhanging the jib and in an arc, preferably raised, on the top face of the jib. In other modifications, the holes are replaced by dovetail or other recesses cut through or into the coacting edges of the top plate overhanging the jib and the arc on it.
