Abstract

A pedal powered power source comprises a seat A mounted on a main support beam B and pair of pedals C carried by respective rocking arms D. A drive medium G passes around freewheel units H and a further rotating unit I and is linked to each of the rocking arms D. The invention may be used for static or mobile applications.

Description

A pedal operated power source.
In the following description reference will be made to sketch 1
Description
The operator sits in a well supporting seat, (A) mounted on a main support beam, (B) which carries all the other parts, with their feet on a pair of pedal plates, (C) with heel supports, attached to the ends of rocking arms (D). The other end of these arms extend beyond the pivot points and are connected together by a linkage arrangement, (E) which keeps them coneetly positioned in relation to each other. These arms are then connected by tie rods, (F) positioned on the arms to give a torque amplification of two to one, to a suitable drive medium (G) passing round a freewheel unit, (H) which has a diameter such that one full revolution is made for each stroke of the pedal arm, then this drive medium is passed round a further plain rotating unit, (I) which then it links back to a second freewheel unit and back via a second tie rod to the other rocker pedal ann.
This results in a synchronised closed loop drive system.
The output from this power source arrangement is taken from the shaft joining the two freewheel sprockets using some type of standard drive medium, which is driven via a direct drive or a simple dog type clutch to allow for various types of application to be catered for. These may be either static or mobile see sketches 2 and 3 for typical illustrations.
