Abstract
A system for monitoring the operation of one or more lifts or elevators 1 comprises sensors such as accelerometers 2, voltage measuring devices 3, current measuring devices 4, position sensors 5, magnetic field sensors 6 and cameras 7. The system may include at least one data logger 8 and may transmit data from the sensors 2-7 or data logger(s) 8 to a remote location to facilitate the identification and resolution of faults, record the operation of the lift(s) or facilitate the rescue of persons trapped within a lift car.

Description:
The invention is a system for monitoring the operation of a lift (or elevator) or group of lifts by the measurement and collection of data generated during the operation of a lift, or group of lifts. The data is subsequently transmitted to a remote location using a variety of means, including -but not restricted to -one or more of the following: telephone network, mobile telephone network, wireless network or the internet. The invention comprises accelerometers, electrical voltage measuring devices, electrical current measuring devices, position sensors, magnetic field sensors and cameras. The data collected by the accelerometers, electrical voltage measuring devices, electrical current measuring devices, position sensors, magnetic field sensors and cameras is transmitted to a remote location for further analysis. The term "remote location" refers to a location that is not the lift (or elevator) machine room or lift shaft, lift well or hoistway.
The function of the system is to provide data to facilitate the identification of faults, problems or anomalies relating to the operation of a lift or group of lifts; additionally, the system facilitates the resolution (or trouble shooting) of faults, problems or anomalies and provides a record of the operation of a lift or group of lifts. The system can be used to facilitate the rescue of persons trapped within a lift car (or elevator cab).
