Abstract
A pile breaking unit includes two hydraulic rams 1, two side braces 2 and two jaws 3. There are preferably cutting blades with various profiles which are interchangeable. Ideally an equal flow valve connects the rams to ensure simultaneous operation. It may be supported by slings, a frame or forks; possibly via a powered rotational unit and/or head bracket. There may be an integral rain guard and/or pile guide. The construction industry utilises various styles of concrete piles in foundation work. These piles protrude above the ground and have to be reduced in height, often leaving internal reinforced bar intact, by some form of pile breaking equipment. Existing designs have two main problems;1. The size of the equipment is large and space restrictions often prevent its use.2. The weight of the equipment is high and requires heavy excavators or carrying equipment to transport and operate. The BM Pile Crusher is a compact, lightweight design suitable for operation by small size excavators. The design allows the pile to pass through the centre of the cruncher. A twin hydraulic ram system acts on two breaking shells. The BM Pile Cruncher can be used by small size excavators or carrier in tight areas where there is limited clearance. The open design allows good visibility for the operator. The twin ram configuration acting on both shells is unique and produces high breaking forces on the pile.
Description
Pre-Amble The construction industry utilises various style of concrete piles in foundation work.
These piles protrude above the ground and have to be reduced in height, often leaving internal reinforced bar intact, by some form of pile breaking equipment. Existing designs have two main problems; 1. The size of the equipment is large and space restrictions often prevent its use.
2. The weight of the equipment is high and requires heavy excavators or carrying equipment to transport and operate.
The BM Pile Cruncher is a compact, lightweight design suitable for operation by small size excavators.
The BM Pile Cruncher consists of six main parts: -two hydraulic rams (1), two side braces (2) and two breaking shells (3), See figure 1. The hydraulic rams act on the breaking shells, which break the pile. The breaking shells, shown in figure 2, include integral pivot points (A) which attach to the side braces and integral ram support bosses (B). The breaking surface of the shell (C) can have various profiles to suit different pile designs, and may be integral to the shell or interchangeable.
The unit is supported from lifting slings or fixed lifting frame from lifting points (D) on the braces shown in Figure 1 or points (E) on the central pivot beam. The lifting slings can be supported directly on to a lifting device or from a Halo (F)shown in Figure 3. An optional rotating motor (G) connected to a head bracket (H) can be used to position the cruncher. As an alternative to lifting slings the side braces are fitted with fork supports (J), shown in figure 1, for transport and operation by the carrier.
An optional pile guide/ram guard (k) shown in Figure 4 can be inserted within the breaking area attached to the side braces.
The cruncher is positioned at the desired height over the pile with the pile passing through the middle of the cruncher. Hydraulic oil from the operating carrier is fed to the hydraulic rams, or if desired via an equal flow valve, which simultaneously push out the top of both breaking shells causing the breaking surface to crush the pile.
