Abstract

An anchor point for a personnel fall arrest device comprises: a base (11) for attachment to a roof structure; a shock absorber (5) attached to the base; a top bolt (1), suitable for the attachment of a safety eyebolt, attached to the shock absorber; and at least one release tensioned device (6) which restricts operation of the shock absorber until a specified load is applied, the release tensioned device being selected for a particular application. In use, a falling person applies a load to the top bolt. As the load exceeds the release tensioned device capacity load is applied to the shock absorber which distorts so reducing the shock load applied to the base, roof fixings and roof. The anchor point further comprises an outer tube (4) and cap (3) to provide environmental protection for other elements and may comprise extension legs to accommodate different roof profiles. Preferably the anchor point uses mechanical fixings only instead of welds to provide greater consistency of operation.

Description

Anchor Points This invention relates to improvements in safety for providing security against falling for workers operating on elevated sites such as tall buildings, roof area's and the like.
Summary of the Invention
It is the objective of the invention to provide controlled anchor points for single point and safety systems on profiled roof structures and the like, where normal safety anchor points are too ridged and would tear the roof structure and/or pull free, leaving the worker in danger from failure of the anchor point.
According to the invention, the post would give reduced loadings to the roof section, reducing loads to acceptable levels depending on the roof type and size; it can incorporate release sections that at a given load, collapses down then in turn engage the extension absorber device to slow down and stabilise the load, to an acceptable level.
The anchor point is preferably manufactured from a suitable grade of steel and will fit all types and sizes of roofing profiles, due to the various sizes of attachment legs fixed to the base of the anchor point, which can also have clamp type attachments fitted as well as the normal fixings for steel, aluminium, membrane and concrete which are used for general fixing to the various roof structures.
The anchor point may preferably comprise of a main section base, body with cap and leg extensions to attach to the base, for different size and types of roofing structure. The legs would have holes at each end to accommodate the interface of the fixing, between the anchor point and the roof structure.
Preferably the invention should have no welded parts and therefore uses mechanical fixings only giving more consistent operating results; it should also have different tension release and spring levels for different roof strengths and types, all parts should be the same for every type of roof, apart from the length of the legs, fixing types and tension release levels, this makes it more economical than having to have all different types and sizes to stock and to manufacture.
The internal parts of the anchor point should be of suitable material to take into account strength and the possibility of corrosion and life expectancy. The shock absorber part ideally would be of suitable material that is both strong and flexible to enable the controlled reduction and stopping of the applied load.
An example of the invention will be described by referring to the accompanying drawings: figure 1 shows a section view of the invention, showing the internal parts and *figure 2 shows a plan view of the invention, showing the extension legs The base (11) has four holes (13) to enable the attachment of the extension legs (12) of various lengths; the legs also have holes (14) at each end locations for the fixing interface, the hole (14) is suitable for all types of roof fixings.
Fixed to the centre of the base plate (11) is the absorber section (5) which has release tensioned devices (6) which restricts the anchor to a given load before it can be released.
The absorber section (5) is attached by bolts (10) through the base (11) and locked into place by two nuts (8) the top bolt (1) is kept in place by a nut (7) and washer (9), the bolt (1) fits through the top cap (3) and is locked in place by the threaded washer (2).
The device is then tensioned by tightening the top threaded washer (2) to a specified torque, this also compresses all the components together including the base (11) the outer tube (4) and the cap (3).
The holes (13) correspond in both the base (11) and the extension legs (12) both shown in figure 1 and in figure 2.
The top bolt (1) is suitable for fixing a safety eyebolt or the like, the safety anchor point according to the invention is economical in materials and easy to fabricate and fit to roof structures.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS1. Anchor point provides load control for single point anchor points and safety cable systems on all types of roofing and base materials without the need to have different sizes of bases for differing base materials and roof profiles.
  2. 2. Anchor point according to claim 1 comprising of a shockabsorbing spring and release tensioners enabling controlled load reduction to the base materials to take place.
  3. 3. Anchor point according to claim 1 and 2 absorbers a load by collapsing in a controlled manner releasing the shockabsorber and reducing the base material and anchor point stress loads.
  4. 4. Anchor point according to claim 1 fits all types and shapes of roofing and base materials by means of adding to the base different sizes of extension legs to suit the differing roof profiles which only require four small fixing points due to the load reduction.*
  5. 5. Anchor point according to claim 4 can be used with or without the extension legs depending * * * ** S on the type and size of the base materials, different types of fixings can be used into the * 555 base plate or into the extension legs depending on the type of roof profile or base material * S to be fixed to.
