Abstract
246,549. Hughes, W. D. Oct. 23, 1924, Grates for stoves or furnaces comprise one or more elements of grid or frame-like form of arched section. In domestic fireplaces a single element is preferably used, that shown in Fig. 1 comprising bars with upturned ends B' attached to longitudinal bars A. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the upturned portions B<3> are formed on a separate member detachably interlocked with the main structure. As shown also in Fig. 2, the elements may be provided with flat perforated strips E, which serve to space them apart. Fig. 4 shows a form for use in furnaces, comprising an apertured plate with apertured spacing flanges E. A shutter or damper may be provided at one end of the element to control the air supply. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 15716/93, 9202/96, 28204/02; and 13484/13, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of].
