Abstract

A bicycle lock comprises a lockable box (1) secured to the frame of a bicycle and a length of electrical flex (4) which in use is routed through and around the bicycle and any item to which it is to be secured before an opposing end is connected to the box (1). The flex (4) creates a circuit which, if broken, causes the alarm to sound and a light (5) to flash. The alarm is set by means of a user inputting a code into a keypad (3).

Description

Bicycle audio and visual anti theft alarm.
This invention is to be used in conjuction with current cycle securing devises such as chains, padlocks clamps and cables.
What the invention does is: should a bicycle fitted with the invention be subjected to an act of theft, or an attempt made to remove component parts such as a wheel, handlebars or saddle, an audio alarm will activate and simultaneously a visual flashing light on the lid of the unit will activate.
With the alarm activated the immediate attention of people in the vicinity, including police and community officers, will be drawn to the act taking place. It immediately destroys the stealth and appearance of normal behaviour that the would be thieves rely on. The alarm will continue until the owner deactivates it with a personal indentity code, or the battery energy source is depleted.
The invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanied drawing.
The anti theft unit comprises of a lockable metal box (Fig 1) secured to the frame of the bike.
The box contains an audiable sound unit (Fig. 2). A key pad (Fig 3). A battery pack (not in view). A length of small gauge electrical flex (Fig 4). On the lid of the unit, a flashing light device (Fig 5).
To operate, the owner takes the end of the electrical flex and routes the wire around the main frame, through the spokes of the wheels, through the springs of the saddle, around the handlebars.
The wire can also follow the route of any securing device such as a chain. This prevents the securing device being cut and the bicycle being canied away in silence.
The routing of the flex culminates when the end of the wire is plugged into the main unit (Fig 1). When the wire is plugged into the unit the electrical circuit is completed, indicated by a red L.E.D. (Light Emitting Diode). The owner then keys into the key pad their own personall indentification number. The LED turns green indicating the alarm is set. Should the low voltage cuircuit in the electrical flex be broken at any point the alarm will activate.
