Abstract

A seal cavity throat bushing for use with rotating fluid equipment having a seal cavity (5) which is defined by a rotary shaft, a housing (3) and a sealing device (7) at one end of the cavity. The bushing comprises an annular element (15) which is adapted for a tight fit in the housing at the entrance of the cavity, the element having a radially outer cylindrical surface, a radially inner cylindrical surface having a diameter greater than that of the shaft, a first annular surface (20) at the cavity entrance, a second annular surface (21) at the cavity exit and a third annular surface (22) longitudinally positioned between the first and second annular surfaces and provided with at least one vane (23) which extends from a radially outer position to a radially inner position and which slopes from the third annular surface, inwardly, towards the entrance of the cavity and the first annular surface.
