Description

Page 1 Utensil Cleaner The invention is a unique new product concept to be used in the field of childcare aids. The primary object of the invention is to provide cleaning and sterilising assistance via a powerful, portable. convenient and safe cleaning tool.
The invention is a rotary and oscillating brush cleaning device with interchangeable brush attachments, including a power unit adapted for handheld use. The power unit comprises an ergonomic housing, adapted for being gripped in the hand of a user, and the housing also has an interior, the internal electric motor being mounted in the interior of said housing. The basc supports and engages a selected speed and direction of brush movement via the user control positioned at the apex of the base unit. An attachment mounting member is located in the interior of the housing, and a power source is additionally located in the housing. At least one interchangeable brush attachment is provided for removable coupling to the power unit. The brush attachment includes a brush portion and an attachment mounting member for the power unit. The attachment mounting member has a mounting groove formed by an inner wall surface and an outer wall surface spaced from the inner wall surface. The mounting groove is annular, and peg members are located at diametrically opposite locations on the annular mounting groove.
The attachment based portion of the brush attachment has a sleeve portion for insertion into the mounting groove of the attachment mounting member of the power unit. The grooved conical housing attachment based portion has an attachment slot for receiving and engaging the peg member of the attachment mounting member. The brush attachments include a bottle cleaning brush attachment, a sponge cleaning brush attachment, a baby nipple cleaning brush attachment, a wire brush attachment, and a scouring brush attachment. The handle houses a battery / rechargeable battery driven motor that drives the attached brush from the conical shaft on the housing in a circular rotation and oscillating movement. Each brush attachment is mounted on a central elongated flexible plastic core. The regular brush attachment is relatively narrow and used for cleaning baby bottles and tall glasses or vases. A narrow brush scrubber attachment comprises an annular ring of rough scouring material that can be placed over the narrow brush attachment for cleaning any caked on residue / debris at the bottom of a baby bottle or tall glass.
Page 2 Figure 1 shows an aesthetic view of the standard model of the unit with the interchangeable baby bottle brush attachment shown attached, and the miniature nipple brush shown unattached. The power button is located at the distal end of the core handle unit. The standard model is battery powered, with the deluxe models having the additional feature of a mains power rechargeable unit. The battery cover of the standard model is also located at the distal end of the handle unit.
The motor housing is waterproof and the handle is designed ergonomically to provide maximum comfort for a hand held device.
Figure 2 shows a technical drawing of the standard model core handle of the unit. The brush attachment is not to scale.
Figure 3 shows a computer aided design of the core handle unit.
Figures 4 and 5 show the angled core brush design. illustrating the bristle arrangement and showing a second version incorporating bobble type structures at the ends of each bristle. These are not drawn to scale.
The unit is a rotating and oscillating brush cleaning apparatus/unit and system used in order to thoroughly clean and aid in the stenlisation process of removing residues and debris of milk, scum and formulas from a baby's feeding bottle. This will aid in the reduction of gastroenteritis and colic in infants. A basic battery can be used in order to power the unit, which will be provided with a battery of a rechargeable nature or with a disposable battery. Either may be employed depending upon the model, there being a more advanced cordless/rechargeable unit that will be available. In the case of the primary embodiment of the present invention, this will be a battery operated unit. The power source is located in the housing, along with the internal mounted electric motor, and is fully removable from the base unit via the motor housing area of said unit.
To accomplish this, the unit is configured as shown in Figure 1. The concept is intended to provide parents and other caregivers with an effective tool for thoroughly washing a child's bottle, as well as the corresponding teat, to assure the highest possible level of hygiene. The device would be fabricated primarily from plastic, specifically, an acrylic polymer, and would feature a battery-powered motor that would drive a rotating and oscillating shaft.
The Unit will comprise of a rechargeable I mains charge battery driven motor which will impel the brush attachment in a perpendicular oscillating and rotating circular movement, in a series of pre-programmed sequences designed to enhance the efficiency and quality of cleaning of stubborn residues and debris within the feeding bottle.
Page 3 The battery driven motor located within the interior of the base handheld unit is a conventional direct current driven portable electric motor powered by an electrical supply power source such as conventional batteries, or rechargeable batteries, or any other electrical source supply. A rubber circular inset seal ring is located at the base of the battery cover and speed regulating dial control.
This results in a waterproof and water tight seal which secures that the battery area is correctly and tightly protected against water contact, and prevents any water seepage or leakage into the interior of the handheld housing unit. The waterproof housing casing of the base unit is composed of plastic and I or ABS.
The electric motor dial control will provide the user with the ability to engage the motor and select a variety of speeds, and additionally variable directions and movement patterns, featuring both oscillating and rotational vectors. All attachments are fitted at the core mounting attachment member at the lower base of the handheld unit. The control operating dial system rotates in a circular fashion to regulate speed and control of the rotating mounting unit, and for driving the motor and controlling brush directional movement. The power button is located at the centre of the speed dial control area, and is pressed or depressed in order to engage or disengage the motor from the provided power source.
The unit will be available with a variety of brush attachments for different cleaning actions.
Additionally it will be provided with various mounting attachment accessories and tools. Each brush attachment includes a brush portion and an attachment mounting member for the power unit. The brushes and scrubbing tools comprise of a flexible plastic core, with each brush and teat tool adapted to he selectively rotated and oscillated via the battery power driven motor.
A variety of speeds and brush movements will be selectable by the user via an external dial control located at the apex of the base member unit. Examples of brush attachments provided include a teat adaptor brush with a teat shaped bristle brush attachment and standard shape attachment, and an annular foam adaptor brush whose function is to efficiently and quickly remove and wipe off any caked on scum or residues. An example of accessories provided is an annular stretched chemise cover with an ela.sticated top, which can be placed over the foam adaptor brush, resulting in providing a polishing function via this multi-purpose hand-held cleaning tool.
The flexible plastic brush core will contain a soap dispensing injection area, whose function is to assist in the delivery of soap solution via the brush into the utensil to be cleaned. The brush core can be either telescopic or non-telescopic, depending on the brush attachment. The lower area portal of the brush forms a snug connection with the utensil, and with the main motor housing attachment member, in order to drive the mechanism of the brush attachment fitted directly into the utensil or bottle to be cleaned. This allows the brush head to be employed for ease of use in any of the various extension positions (depending on brush attachment type). The benefits of this include simplicity of use and maximum reduction of complications involved with attaching and fitting the various tool attachments.
Page 4 The brush attachments include an elongated intermediate shaft extending between the attachment mounting unit and the central shaft of the brush itself. The attachment mounting member has a mounting groove formed by an inner wall surface and an outer wall surface spaced from the inner wall surface. The mounting groove is annular, and peg members are located at diametrically opposite locations on the annular mounting groove. The attachment based portion of the brush attachment has a sleeve portion for insertion and locking into the mounting groove of the attachment mounting member of the power unit. The grooved conical housing attachment based portion has an attachment slot to entry portion for receiving and engaging the peg member of the attachment mounting member, extending in a longitudinal direction along the brush attachment, and a locking portion extending perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the entry portion, so that rotation of the attached base portion about the axis moves and causes one of the peg members to be received in the entry portion of the mounting slot, hence locking the attachment in place, ready for use and full manoeuvrability. Some brush attachments come with telescopically extendable shafts. The brush attachment chosen for use depends upon the device or utensil that the user intends to clean, the different brush attachments being designed for different functions, and the brush attachments being made available separately so that they can be obtained by the user depending on their intended use of the tool.
The brush designs will include a revolutionary new concept in brush bristle arrangement, using a zigzag type design in an extended layout, which results in a more thorough cleaning of the utensil or bottle, due to the angular pattern of said bristles. In figure 4, the bristle extends perpendicularly from the brush shaft I, and then deviates at regular intervals at angles of 45° and 135° respectively until the end of the bristle 2, 3. In figure 5, an additional design feature incorporates bobble structures on the ends of each bristle 4. The bristle pattern is diametrically opposite, with one half of the brush bristles deviating with an initial angle of 135°, and the other half of the brush conversely deviating initially at a 45° angIe. This is illustrated in both figures 4 and 5.
A spherical brush design has a series of radially aligned bristles at different angles to each other.
Some of the bristles are longer than the others, the shorter ones generally found toward the upper end of the brush. This brush has a general spherical shape in order to aid the cleaning of the interior cavities of certain types of containers or conventional drinking vessels of similar configurations.
The handheld motor housing power unit is fully waterproof, with the brush tools casing attachment mounting unit being ergonomically grooved in a conical shape from the top to the bottom end of the member. This will increase the efficiency of use of the unit, and result in safe and clean usage, preventing attraction or entanglement of any debris or scum around the apparatus, or towards the motor area, from the utensil being cleaned. Not only does this maximise the efficiency of the unit but it also maximises the life span of the entire apparatus. The unit is designed such that it prevents user entrapment or finger pinching in the mechanisms when detaching or connecting brush attachments to the attachment mounting unit.
Page 5 The handheld base member houses a rechargeable battery driven motor as described above, and comprises of a lower attachment end and an upper base handheld grip in an ergonomically designed elongated shape with a rounded apex. This design provides ease of holding and maximises efficiency of handling. The grip surface is to one side of the base unit and is shaped for comfort and to provide maximum grip when handling and in use. The tight-grip rubber design is ergonomically engineered to provide non-slip handling, resulting in safer use when cleaning and using in proximity to water, soap and other detergents. As the intended use is envisioned to be in a wet environment, the design provides increased grasping ability, resulting in a glove-like grip for the user. The lower attachment end of the base member provides a connection and drive mechanism for each brush attachment, these being adapted to be interchangeably affixed to the attachment mounting unit at the lower end of the base member body.
