Abstract
244,252. Hanwell, C. H. Nov. 28, 1924. Protectors, construction of.-A method of incorporating metal resilient members into creperubber soles, heels, and protectors for footwear consists in heating the metal member and incorporating it with the crepe rubber by a. screwing movement or by pressure. Metal springs 2, Fig. 3, are heated well below red heat so as to soften without overheating the rubber and are then inserted by a screwing movement into the sole on the finished boot. On cooling, the crepe rubber adheres to the spring. The outer ends 3, Fig. 2, of the springs are level with or project slightly from the sole. Instead of springs, various V-shapad pieces of wire or strip metal may be incorporated with the sole or heel, either with the open end of the V on the tread or reversed. In other cases, resilient members may take the form of a series of serrations the axes of which are parallel with the tread. Protectors either in the form of a complete sole or heel, or isolated protectors, may be formed in a similar manner and be secured by adhesive, or isolated protectors may be recessed in soles or heels.
