Description
* 1 2441961 Wall Hanging Jewellery Cabinet The present invention
relates to a cabinet for storing and accessing jewellery.
tn particular, the present invention relates to such a cabinet that is mounted upon a wall, so that it is easy for the items of jewellery to be kept discreetly yet in a neat, tidy and appealing manner. This type of container or cabinet is therefore functional for use by all ages of jewellery wearers, and its external and internal appearance can be adapted as required.
Previously, wearers of items such as necklaces, earrings and finger (or even toe) rings have typically either stored these pieces in one or more boxes placed upon dressing tables, shelves or other furniture.
Alternatively, individual items may be left loose upon surfaces of such furniture.
A disadvantage of this type of storage is that surfaces become cluttered and untidy, whilst items may become difficult to find if several boxes are used or if loose items become lost. Since jewellery may consist of expensive items, and interior decoration is typically of interest to wearers, improvements in storage with ease of access are desired.
It is therefore one aim of the present invention to provide improved jewellery-containing and presentation approaches so as to overcome the disadvantages of the
prior art.
According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a wall-hanging jewellery cabinet as claimed in claim 1.
According to a second aspect, a kit is provided that comprises a plurality of such cabinets as mentioned in the first aspect.
Further additional features are provided by the subsidiary claims.
Figures 1A -1E show, in general, a first container according to one embodiment of the present invention.
Figure IA illustrates the view of the container facing the user when the door of the container is in its open position; Figures lB and C depict a side view of the container of Figure 1A; and Figures 1D and 1E show views of Figure 1A from above and below.
Figure 2A illustrates a perspective view of a swing-action arm being comprised of one embodiment of the container of the present invention.
Figure 2B shows an end view of the arm depicted in Figure 2A.
Figures 3A -E show, in general, a second container according to one embodiment of the present invention, with each view-type corresponding accordingly to the respective view-type described above for figures 1A -1E.
Figure 4 depicts a kit of three containers according to a further embodiment of the present invention.
In Figure 1A a first jewellery container is shown having two swing-action arms that can pivot outwards on hinges 2. An individual arm of this type is shown in greater detail in Figures 2A and B. Each arm 1 has a lip 3 and a plurality of fixing points such as hooks 4.
The arms may be manufactured of, for example, gold and/or silver materials. Necklaces (not shown) may be fastened over these hooks 4 so that they hang neatly down within the interior of the cabinet when the arm(s) 1 have been replaced in their closed, flattened positions.
The first container also comprises a door unit 5 that is connected to the container body 6 by one or more further hinges 7 or the like. A mirror 8 can be located on the inside face of the door unit 5. Running longitudinally parallel to the sides of the mirror 8 are fixing points for holding earrings and so forth.
In a unit below the mirror 8, a series of vertical slits 9 may run horizontally for holding finger rings.
The door units and container body make up the overall outer structure of the first container 10, which in use is mounted on a wall at an appropriately convenient height for the jewellery wearer. The first container may be mounted in combination with other containers, for example as shown in Figure 4, in which two further containers 100, 200 are arranged to give an overall pleasing wall mounting. The mounting can provide a contemporary decorative jigsaw effect. The latter effect can display pieces of a picture, for example each piece displayed on one or more of the cabinet(s), or more than one picture.
Second container 100 is shown in greater detail in Figures 3A -3E and comprises an arm 11 on a container body 60 together with a door unit 50 that has one or more pouches 12. The arm 11 can hold necklaces that, because of the greater length of the second container as compared to first container 10, may be of relatively greater length than those held on the arms 1 of the first container 10. The pouches 12 can hold rings, earrings or bracelets and so forth.
Third container 200 may contain hooks and the like for holding bracelets and other pieces of jewellery.
The user may of course just require two of the cabinets, for example the first and second containers, which could be arranged one above the other.
The interior surfaces of the container(s) may be covered in velvet and so forth, with such soft materials being particularly preferred for the unit holding the slits 9.
In use the door unit is opened and the wearer places or removes items of jewellery from their respective holding places.
The present invention provides a convenient, neat and tidy way of storing and putting on jewellery, whilst the exterior(s) of the cabinet(s) can be adapted to the taste of the owner.
The wall mounting of the concept provides added safety, such that small otherwise dangerous items of jewellery can be kept away from the reach of small children.
On the other hand, for intended users, the cabinet(s) provide quick access to their stored jewellery, the latter being organised so that items are neither tangled nor damaged, and are therefore easy to handle.
