Abstract

The system allows remote actuation of inflatable fenders to ease docking of a marine vessel with a static or floating mooring or to another vessel. Actuation of fender inflation may be from a point within the vessel. The fenders may be stored, when not in use, within the vessel, deployment being through outlets or hatches in the vessel's hull. The fenders may be inflated with air, using air pumps. After use the fenders may be retracted back into a stored position within the outlets or hatches. The fenders may be formed as airbag style fenders, or as large tubular members.

Description

Automated marine vessel fender deployment Marine vessel. Any boat, ship
or waterbome craft Fender. Traditionally an airfi lied or solid plastic or rubber cushion which provides a buffer between a marine vessel and mooring. These fenders are traditionally suspended from ropes along the side of the vessel.

Mooring. A place where a marine vessel is parked or stored whilst remaining in the water. Amongst the types of moorings include; concrete or wooden dockside, concrete or wooden post in water, floating docks, other water craft or the edge of a body of water on which the vessel is travelling.

The patent applied for is for the Automated Marine Vessel Fender Deployment mechanism. The mechanism is designed to provide automated deployment of fenders on marine craft. These fenders provide a buffer between marine craft and docks and harbour walls.

Traditionally such fenders are deployed manually by suspending them from points along the vessel to provide the necessary buffer between vessel and dock during docking, mooring and departure from the mooring.

Airbag style deployment through opening, fenders are deployed by remote control using air pumps to inflate the designated fenders along the side of the vessel.

Drawing I and Drawing 2 illustrate the vessel side during the stowed and deployed.

The airbag style fenders are inflated and deflated through outlets in the side of the vessel.

Larger fender style hatch deployment. Concept 2 is the deployment of larger tubular fenders through inflation of the units and deployed through hatches on the upper of the side of the vessel. These fenders then drop to the side of the vessel and provide the necessary buffer between vessel and mooring.

Drawings 3 and 4 illustrate the hatch locations and subsequent location of deployed fenders.

The deployment of this concept can be achieved by inflation and deflation of the large fenders using pumps remote controlled by an operator within the vessel.
