Abstract
The Rocket Launcher Alignment Tool comprising of two tubes 1 and a platform 3 which slides into a rocket launcher providing a platform in which to place an inclinometer. The readings on the inclinometer are then used to adjust the aircraft to launcher mounting system, to within 0.1 degree of the desired position in pitch and roll.
Description
<p>ROCKET LAUNCHER ALIGNMENT TOOL</p>
<p>This invention is a one piece tool that allows a M261 70mm Rocket Launcher and other variants' of this type of Rocket Launcher to be aligned to an aircraft (eg: Apache Helicopter) correctly with the aide of an inclinometer.</p>
<p>There is no current method of aligning the rocket launcher to the aircraft datum accurately.</p>
<p>Although the rocket launcher is fitted correctly and is pointing in the correct direction, it has not been aligned accurately enough with the aircraft datunL The true position of where the rocket is pointing is unknown and the result is an unknown Desired Mean Point of Impact (DMPI) for the rockets. To make the rockets accurate, thus reducing fratricide and collateral damage the rocket launcher must be aligned to within 0.1 degree in pitch and roll.</p>
<p>An object of this invention is to provide a tool that accurately allows the setting up a launcher in order to allow the DMPI to be at the target.</p>
<p>The alignment tool is a either a single item or three piece item that is easily fitted to the launcher and can then be used as a platform in which to measure the position of the launcher during setup.</p>
<p>A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: The tool is made of a lightweight alloy lbr strength and rigidity yet lightweight enough for air transportability.</p>
<p>FIGURE 1 shows a plan of the whole tool; As shown in figure 1, the tool comprises of two 70mm parallel tubes or bars number 1 that will slot into the launcher. These tubes are either welded number 3 onto a triangular machined platform number 2.</p>
<p>The surface of the triangular platform must be machined exactly level with the 70mm tubes on both upper and lower surfces. This then provides a level platform in which to place an inclinometer to measure the position of the launcher.</p>
<p>The aircraft to launcher mounting system can then be adjusted using the inclinometer to within 0.1 degree of the desired position in both pitch and roil FIGURE 4 shows an alternative method of attaching the 70mm bars to the platform.</p>
<p>As shown in figure 4, the 70mm bars number I are drilled and tapped and the platform number 2 which has two bolts fitted to it, screws into the bars to provide an accurate flush and tight fit</p>
Claims (1)
- <p>CLAIMS</p><p>1. A Rocket Launcher Alignment Tool comprising of two tubes or bars connected to a platform that slides into a rocket launcher providing a platform in which to place an inclinometer.</p><p>2. A Rocket Launcher Alignment Tool according to daim 1, made from alloy will ensure strength and rigidity yet lightweight enough for air transportability.</p><p>3. A Rocket Laincher Alignment Tool in conjunction with an inclinometer provides a vy airate platform in which to meaaiire the pitch and roll of a rocket launcher.</p><p>4. A Rocket Launcher Alignment Tool according to claim 3, in conjunction with an inclinometers aconrate meavremcnt, Will allow the wuft to launcher mounting system, adjust the launcher to within 0.1 degree in pitch and mU.</p><p>5. A Rocket Launcher Alignment Tool that will allow the rocket launcher to be adjusted accurately enough to predict the Isired Mean Point of Impact (DMPI) of the rockets.</p>
