Abstract

A TV card 4 with a personal computer memory card international association (PCMCIA) 46 interface comprises a plurality of radio frequency receivers 41 and an audio/video signal receiver 44 for receiving a digital TV signal 1 (DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-H, DVB-S, ATSC, ISDB-T, DMB-T), an analogue TV signal 2 and an audio/video signal 3, e.g. from a VCR, digital camera, DVD player or VCD player providing an S-Video or composite video signal. The digital and analogue TV signals are then demodulated in respective digital and analogue demodulators 42 and 43. All signals are then decoded in decoder 45, and transmitting to a host end 5, via PCMCIA interface 46, for playing simultaneously. Thus, without any additional PCMCIA TV card, the TV card with the PCMCIA interface is capable of receiving various types of TV signals, and additional PCMCIA slots in the host end (e.g. PC, laptop / notebook computer etc) may be avoided.

Description

TV CARD WITH PCMCIA INTERFACE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the invention
The present invention generally relates to a TV card with a PCMCIA interface, and more particularly to a TV card capable of simultaneously receiving a digital TV signal, an analog TV signal and audio/video signal, and demodulating and decoding the same and then transmit the demodulated and decoded digital TV signal, analog TV signal and audio/video signal to a host end via the PCMCIA interface for playing.
2. Description of the related art
The development of the TV set is from initially black-n-white CRT TV, color CR1 TV to the present digital TV and plasma TV Nowadays, the display quality of the TV is better with better resolution, contrast and colors.
The number of the TV channels has increased from a few to more than a hundred, and the TV signal transmission is also being upgraded to digital TV signal.
The present digital TV provides viewers with a wide variety of TV program receiving methods regardless of cable/non-cable analog TV or cable/noncable digital TV, the viewer may choose according to the

environment. Therefore, most of the viewers watch TV programs through the TV receiving cable or the non-cable analog or digital TV signals.
The personal computer and the notebook computer may also be used to watch the TV programs. The personal computer or notebook computer has to be connected to a TV box or a TV card for receiving the TV signal, which is then modulated, decoded and transmitted to the personal computer or the notebook computer to display the TV programs. The common TV box or the TV card only receives the cable or non-cable analog or digital TV signal one type at a time. That is, only one of a cable analog TV signal, a noncable analog TV signal, a cable digital TV signal or a non-cable digital TV signal can be received at a time. In other words, different types of signals cannot be received simultaneously, particularly the notebook computer, which has a PCMCIA card (personal computer memory card international association card) for electrical connection. The notebook computer has a limitation of size, and the number PCMCIA cards connection to enable the TV card of the notebook computer to receive the various types of the TV signals, which is an important
issue for the manufacturers in the field.
SUMMARY OF TILE INVENTION
According to an aspect of the present invention, the TV card has a ( PCMCIA interface for connecting to a host end. The TV card comprises a plurality of radio frequency receiver and an audio/video signal receiver for receiving various types of signals such as a digital TV signal, an analog TV signal and an audio/video signal and transmitting the same to the host end for S playing. Thus, without any additional PCMCIA TV card, the TV card with the PCMCIA interface is capable of receiving various types of TV signals.
Thus, the need for additional the PCMCIA slots in the host end may be effectively avoided.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
Fig. 1 is a block diagram of a TV card with a PCMCIA interface according to an embodiment of the present invention.
DALL DESCRIPTION OF ThE INVENTION
Referring to Fig. 1, a TV card 4 of the present invention comprises a plurality of radio frequency receivers 41, a digital TV signal demodulator 42, an analog TV signal demodulator 43, an audio/video signal receiver 44, a signal decoder 45 and a PCMCIA interface 64.
The radio frequency receivers 41 are adopted for receiving a digital TV signal 1 and an analog TV signal 2 respectively.
The digital TV signal demodulator 42 is electrically connected to the ( radio frequency receiver 41 adopted to receive the digital TV signal 1 for demodulating and transmitting the digital TV signal 1.
The analog TV signal demodulator 43 is electrically connected to the radio frequency receiver 41 adopted to receive the analog TV signal 2 for demodulating and transmitting the analog TV signal 2.
The audio/video signal receiver 44 is adopted for receiving an audio/video signal 3.
The signal decoder 45 is respectively connected to the digital TV signal demodulator 42, the analog TV signal demodulator 43 and the audio/video signal receiver 44, and is adopted for decoding the demodulated digital TV signal!, the demodulated analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3.
The PCMCIA interface 46 is electrically connected to the signal decoder 45, and transmits the digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3 from the signal decoder 45 to a host end 5 for playing.
The radio frequency receiver 41 is adopted for receiving the digital TV signal 1 of DVB-T (digital video broadcasting terrestrial), DVB-C (digital video broadcasting cable), DVB-H (digital video broadcasting handheld), DVB-S (digital video broadcasting satellite), ATSC (advanced television systems committee), ISDB-T (integrated services digital broadcasting terrestrial) and DMB-T (digital multimedia), or the analog TV signal 2 of coaxial cable. The audio/video signal receiver 44 is adopted for receiving the audio/video signal 3 of S-VIDEO (separate-video) or composite-video. The above-examples are used for only illustrating the embodiment of the digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3, and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention, and any variation or equivalent shall be construed to be within the scope of the present invention.
When the TV card 4 is connected to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46, the radio frequency receivers 41 receive the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 respectively and transmits the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 to the digital TV signal demodulator 42 and the analog TV signal demodulator 43 to separate the digital TV signal I and the analog TV signal 2 from the carrier, wherein the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 separated from the carrier are still in a signal transmission format. Therefore, the decoder 45 converts the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 into a digital multimedia-playing format or a digital multimedia streaming image format and transmits to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46. The host end 5 plays the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 on a monitor (not shown) thereof so that a user can view the ( digital and the analog TV programs simultaneously. The host end 5 also can play a plurality of the digital and analog TV programs simultaneously. Thus, the user may not miss any interesting part of the TV programs. Thus, the TV card 4 with the PCMCIA interface 46 is capable of receiving various types of the TV signals without any additional TV cards, and therefore need for additional PCMCIA slots in the notebook may be effectively avoided.
When an external multi-media player (not shown) transmits the audio/video signal 3 to the host end 5, the audio/video signal receiver 44 receives and transmits the audio/video signal 3 to the decoder 45 first for converting the audio/video signal 3 in various specifications into a digital multimedia playing format or a digital multimedia streaming image format and transmits to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46. The host end S plays the audio/video signal 3 on a monitor (not shown). Thus, the user may be able to view the audio/video signal 3 played on a multimedia player. The multimedia player may be a VCR, a digital video camera, a digital camera, a stereo system, a DVD (digital versatile disk) player or a VCD (video compact disc) player.
Furthermore, the TV card 4 of the present invention comprises both the radio frequency receivers 41 and the audio/video signal receiver 44 to receive t the digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3.
Then, the received digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3 are demodulated, decoded and transmitted to the host end through the PCMCIA interface 46. Thus, the user may have more choices to select the TV programs, especially, for example, when the program of the digital TV signal I or the analog TV signal 2 is displaying commercials, the user may switch to the program of the analog TV signal 2, the digital TV signal 1 or the audio/video signal 3.
Accordingly, the present invention has at least the following advantages.
1. The TV card 4 has the radio frequency receivers 41 to simultaneously receive and transmit the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 to the digital TV signal demodulator 42 and the analog TV signal demodulator 43 for demodulating. Then, the demodulated digital TV signal 1 and the demodulated analog TV signal 2 are transmitted to the signal decoder for decoding, and then the digital TV signal 1 and the analog TV signal 2 can be transmitted to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46 to enable the user to view the digital TV programs and the analog TV programs. Thus, the user can choose to view the digital TV programs and the analog TV programs.
2. The TV card 4 has the audio/video signal receiver 44 for receiving and transmitting the audio/video signal 3 to the decoder 45 for decoding, and then the decoded audio/video signal 3 can be transmitted to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46 for playing.
3. The TV card 4 is connected to the host end 5 through the PCMCIA interface 46 and the TV card 4 has the radio frequency receiver 43 and the audio/video signal receiver 44 for simultaneously receiving and transmitting the digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3. Therefore, the digital TV signal 1, the analog TV signal 2 and the audio/video signal 3 can be simultaneously transmitted to the host end 5 for playing to provide the user with more choice for viewing a variety of TV programs.
While the invention has been described in conjunction with a specific best mode, it is to be understood that many alternatives, modifications, and variations will be apparent to those skilled in the art in light of the foregoing description. Accordingly, it is intended to embrace all such alternatives, ( modifications, and variations in which fall within the scope of the included claims.
All matters set forth herein or shown in the accompanying drawings are to be interpreted in an illustrative and non-limiting sense.

Claims (3)

  1. WHAT THE INVENTION CLAJMED IS
    I. A TV card with a PCMCIA interface, comprising: a plurality of radio frequency receivers, for receiving a digital TV signal and an analog TV signal; a digital TV signal demodulator, electrically connected to said radio frequency receivers, for receiving, demodulating and transmitting said digital TV signal; an analog TV signal demodulator, electrically connected to said radio frequency receiver, for receiving, demodulating and transmitting said analog TV signal; an audio/video signal receiver, for receiving said audio/video signal; a signal decoder, electrically connected to said digital TV signal demodulator, said analog TV signal demodulator and said audio/video signal receiver, for decoding said digital TV signal, said analog TV signal and said audio/video signal; and a PCMCIA interface, electrically connected to said signal decoder, for transmitting said digital TV signal, said analog TV signal and said audio/video signal to a host end.
  2. 2. The TV card with the PCMCIA interface according to claim 1, l0 wherein said radio frequency receiver is adopted for receiving said digital TV signal of DVB-T, DVB-C, DVB-H, DVB-S, ASTSC, ISDB-T and DMB-T, or said analog TV signal of coaxial cable.
  3. 3. The TV card with the PCMCIA interface according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein said audio/video signal receiver is adopted for receiving said audio/video signal of S-VIDEO (separate-video) or composite-video signal.
