Abstract
An elevatable platform or staging 1 arrangement for the support of surveyors, tester or workmen, comprises a rack 5 which is fixed to the structure 7 to be surveyed and a motor driven pinion 2 and roller guides 6 carried by the staging. The staging is designed to be removable when not in use. There may be a hand crank drive provide for use should the motor or power supply fail. The staging may be suspended on a swivel. The staging may be used within a water-borne vessel, e.g. a tanker or bulk carrier. It eliminates the need to assemble temporary scaffolding.
Description
Surveyor's Elevator & Staging
DESCRIPTION
Page 1 Surveyors, Examiners, Testers and Workmen generally, quite often find it extremely hard to operate in certain locations on many structures, particularly in the interior of water born vessels without the erection of temporary staging and/or scaffolding. This can be time consuming and labour intensive. This invention/innovation/device will eliminate such problems.
In the case of water born vessels of any type; but particularly tankers, bulk carriers and general cargo vessels, this device may readily be fitted and used on existing structures and simply incorporated into future buildings.
it is a simple staging, No.!, with safety rails; from a size suitable for one or two men suspended from a single frame, No.7, to one of any suitable length to span several frames.
in the vessel's spaces; selected frames will be fitted with racks, No.5, and roller guides, No.6. The staging will be fitted with a pinion, No.2, to engage the racks, No.5 and operated by an electric motor through a reduction gearbox, No.4. The staging will also be fitted with one or more rollers, No.3, to engage the roller guides, No.6.
The electric motor and the pinion will be easily removed for relocating the staging and/or Stowing away.
In the case of staging to span several frames, two synchronised motors, pinions.awl rollers may be fitted, one at each end of the staging. The motors in all cases will he controlled by a person on the staging and powered through a flexible extension cable.

DESCRIPTION
Page 2 For the event of a power failure, the reduction gearboxes may be supplied with hand cranks to lower or raise the staging.
Staging may also he suspended from deck head frames and/or deck head fittings fitted with racks and roller guides. Tn these cases, the motors may be quickly removed from the staging and from the cargo spaces entirely, as may the staging, if desired.
As the racks and pinions need not be precision engineered, the racks may be curved to carry the staging from bulkhead to deck head. The staging being suspended on a swivel.
Claims (1)
- Surveyor's Elevator & Staging Page 3 (1) This device may be fitted and in operation within a few hours as opposed to several days to install regular scaffolding and staging depending on the height of the structure or depth of a vessel.(2) A device as (I) that by simply removing the pinion with the reduction drive and motor they and the staging can readily be removed from the structure or vessel.(3) A device as in (1) and (2) which will be extremely safe while enabling the operators to locate themselves speedily with precision about and within the areas required.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Surveyor's Elevator & Staging (1) This device may be fitted and in operation within a few hours as opposed to several days to install regular scaffolding and staging depending on the height of *... 4.-. ..-. ..,C.- U IC LI UL#4.4I C S.JI s.lCJ..
