A card reader may be used to enter the hand totals into the scoreboard, and the scoreboard may include an area for indicating player bets. The apparatus may be used for playing a bingo style games, with players being awarded a bonus if the combination of dealer hand totals inputted into the scoreboard illuminates a bingo-style pattern before the dealer goes bust.

Description

1 2427148 Blackjack Bingo This invention relates to casino house games or,

more specifically, the invention relates to the casino game of Blackjack.

Blackjack is a popular casino game and various steps have been taken to try and keep the game interesting and stimulating for the players. This bet involves an additional option which allows players to wager on a series of dealer totals before the dealer busts' i.e. has a total higher than 21.

This invention includes an electronic scoreboard' which shows the current totals that the dealer has achieved without busting'. This scoreboard' allows input from the dealer, or supervisor, by means of a keypad positioned on, or near to, the blackjack table. This add-on feature can be employed with any number of decks and although regular 52 card decks are preferred, modified decks could also be used. This add-on can also be employed on any blackjack variation whereby the dealer has to draw to a predetermined total. A specially printed layout, incorporating the extra betting spots, would also need to be used throughout the game. The electronic scoreboard' can also be designed to record the players' wagers, or, alternatively, the wagers can be recorded manually by the dealer or supervisor.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with use of an attached diagram.

Before the players receive any cards they may place a bet on the Blackjack Bingo' betting spot (numbered 1-6 in the diagram). The dealer will either record the bets manually by keeping them in a spedfic area on the layout (numbered 7 in the diagram) or will input the bets into the scoreboard' (numbered 9 in the diagram) by using the special keypad (numbered 8 in the diagram). At this time, none of the segments on the electronic scoreboard' are lit as the dealer has yet to play a hand.

The game will then play out as regular Blackjack and the dealer will play out his, or her, hand until either reaching a standard Blackjack total or busting'. Once the dealer has reached his, or her, total then that total will be inputted using the keypad. The totals will consist of 7 possible options, 17,18,19,20,21,BJ or BUST'.

The corresponding segment, on the scoreboard' will then light up (or flash) showing that that particular total has been achieved by the dealer. For example, the dealer's hand consists of a King, 4 and 3 so the input' will be 17' and the segment marked 17', on the scoreboard' will either light up or flash.

The aim for the players is to try and achieve a winning combination of lit segments before the dealer eventually busts'. The winning combinations will consist of particular winning lines, or other combinations as shown on the sheet titled 7 Potential Payouts' * 2 If the dealer makes the same total twice then the segment will remain lit, or flashing, as it has already been achieved by the dealer.

As soon as the dealer plays a hand that ends in him, or her, busting, then the dealer will input the bust' using the keypad and the scoreboard' will then display any winning combinations, if applicable. If there are any winning combinations then the dealer will pay the players at predetermined odds of which a possible series of payouts are included on the 7 Potential Payouts' sheet.

After the dealer busts' then the scoreboard will be reset so that it starts at the beginning again and no segments are lit. Players now have the option to enter the new Blackjack Bingo' betting round for the next series of dealer hands If a winning combination is achieved the dealer will still continue recording his, or her, totals until he, or she, busts'. This is to allow the players to go for bigger payouts by lighting up more segments and achieving a higher payout award.

The players must place their bets at the start of a new Blackjack Bingo' round. The amounts that may be bet are determined by the casino but it is suggested that the Blackjack Bingo' bet is limited to be no more than the player's Blackjack wager.

As well as this specific embodiment this invention could contain one or more of the following:- (i) In the second embodiment, payouts could be awarded for lighting up a specific number of segments, rather than lighting up a predetermined sequence of segments. Awards could be given for 2 squares lit, 3 squares lit etc, with the higher number of lit squares attracting the bigger payouts.

(ii) In the third embodiment, the dealer will pay out as soon as any winning sequence is met and then reset the scoreboard' for a new round. This allows the game to be played more quickly and for more rounds to be played.

(iii) In the fourth embodiment, rather than ending a session as soon as the dealer reaches any bust' total, a predetermined bust' total could be used. For example, the scoreboard' is only reset when the dealer reaches a bust' total of 22.

(iv) In the fifth embodiment, special bonuses could be paid for lighting up the segments in a specific order. For example, 17,18,19,20,21 & B) lit in sequence could result in a jackpot-style payout. Furthermore, a special bonus could be paid if the dealer achieves a suited Blackjack' to end the sequence regardless as to whether that results in a full house' or a winning line or combination.

(v) In the sixth embodiment, the scoreboard' may show the segments as being different shapes as rectangles, or squares, Furthermore, the complete Blackjack Bingo' grid may be designed into a different shape i.e. an L' or X' shape can be used instead of the conventional rectangle.

(vi) In the seventh embodiment, the scoreboard' may be connected to a card reader device which will automatically record the dealer totals. This device generally consists of a special camera positioned above he Blackjack table.

This invention could also be used on the Internet, installed on video or slot machines or stored on a disc and played on a computer.
