Abstract

242,447. Barker, A. W., and Chapman, A. H. Nov. 21, 1924. Rulers; beam compasses; dotting-appliances.- An instrument for drawing on vertical or steeply sloping surfaces comprises a paralled ruler A mounted on graduated rollers A' and carrying a bubble clinometer D rotatably mounted in a graduated ring E. The ruler can thus be adjusted on the drawing surface for ruling a number of parallel lines either horizontally or inclined to the horizontal at any desired angle. The ruler is also provided with means enabling it to be used as a beam compass. As shown in Fig. 2 the ruler rotatably carries a ring F provided with cross wires H, the intersection of which represents the centre of the circle to be drawn; the ruler is also provided with a number of apertures J through any one of which a pencil &c. K can be passed. Alternatively, a centre point and a pencil &c. may be carried by clamping members which can be adjustably secured to the ruler. For drawing dotted &c. lines a notched plate, Fig. 4, may be hinged or otherwise attached to the ruler.
