Abstract

A computer keyboard and mouse support is made from a plurality of interlocking pivotal members (items 1-8 fig 1). The support is pivotally adjustable between two positions. The support is adjustable to allow use in either the standing or sitting position. The support is designed to allow right or left handed use. The support may be made from metal, plastic or wood.

Description

I
SUPPORTS
The invention relates to supports for computer keyboards, laptops and computer mice.
Repetitive strain injury problems, posture related injuries and fatigue are some of the complaints which are claimed by many computer operators and indeed there are many patents which try to deal with these problems. This invention is complementary to a lot of these ideas in that the normal keyboard posture has not been taken away. A keyboard operator may still spend most of their time sitting, but to relieve tension, fatigue or just for a change of posture then a period standing in front of their computer can be a comfortable alternative. However, computer keyboards and computer mice are generally designed for a user who is sitting. For a user who is standing, there are generally three options.
a) Stretch down to the keyboard and mouse and push the keys or mouse with the tips of their fingers.
b) Bend down to reach the keyboard and mouse c) Raise the keyboard and mouse to reach the keys. For example a high table.
Subsequently a user does not generally stand while computing.
In the design of the enclosed keyboard and mouse support system some consideration as to whether the user is more comfortable with the computer mouse on the right hand side of the keyboard or on the left hand side of the keyboard has been made. Some operators even alternate their mouse hand over several months to relieve stress.
An object of this invention is to provide a two position keyboard and mouse stand which allows the keyboard and mouse to be used in a sitting position and also to be comfortably used in a standing position. A further object of this invention is to provide flexibility as to which side of the keyboard that a user requires the mouse support.
A further object of this invention is to provide supports that can be incorporated into a computer keyboard or be used as a standalone piece of equipment to support an existing keyboard and mouse.
The invention provides a keyboard and mouse support system which can support a computer keyboard and a computer mouse at an angle of between zero degrees and minus 10 degrees from the horizontal plane and at an angle of between 30 degrees and 80 degrees from the horizontal plane.
The support may be made of any rigid material such as metal, plastic or wood.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Item 1 is the Base for keyboard support. Item 2 is the Top for keyboard support.
Item 3 is the Top for left handed keyboard and mouse support.
Item 4 is the Top for right handed keyboard and mouse support.

The combination in Figure 4 show how the supports are used for a user who is sitting. The mouse support has been designed to be able to to be attached to any of the keyboard support assemblies by inserting Features 23 into Features 24.
Item 21 is used on item 2, item 3, item 4 and item 8 to stop the keyboard from sliding forward when the support is tilted to the preferred angle. Item 22 is used on item 6 to stop the mouse from sliding forward when the support is tilted to the preferred angle. Feature 19 allows the mouse socket to be slipped through the space. Feature 20 allows the mouse cable to move freely.
