Abstract
A method of hair treatment comprising the steps of: selecting a foraminous bag 11 whose contents comprise or include fibrous or leaf like material 14 containing a colorant and/or other material suitable for treatment of hair; causing the contents to be moistened; and applying the bag to the hair 21 and causing it to pass along a path over the hair so as result in the transfer of the colourant and / or other material to the hair. Also disclosed is a bag 11 having at least one foraminous wall 13 and containing fibrous or leaf like material 14 which can be moistened by way of the foraminous wall following the application of water to the outside of the wall characterised by a hair treating material deposited on the outside of the bag at surface regions 12A, 13A.
Description
METHOD OF HAIR TREATMENT AND A COMPONENT THEREFOR
This invention relates to a method of hair treatment and a component therefor.
Hair care products for domestic and for commercial use make up a major industry.
Their marketing is characterized by extensive research and advertising which involves substantial investment. The present invention is concerned with the provision of a simple but effective method of hair treatment making use of existing treatment materials.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of hair treatment comprising the steps of: selecting a foraminous bag whose contents comprise or include fibrous or leaf like material containing a colorant and/or other material suitable for treatment of hair; causing the contents to be moistened; and applying the bag to the hair and causing it to pass along a path over the hair so as result in the transfer of the colourant and/or other material to the hair.
According to a first preferred version of the first aspect of the present invention prior to the step of applying the bag a further step is carried out comprising the deposition on the bag of a further treating material and during the subsequent step of applying the bag to the hair and causing it to pass along the path over the hair the further treating material is transferred from the bag to the hair or body.
According to a second preferred version of the first aspect of the present invention or of the first preferred version thereof the fibrous or leaf like material is, or includes, tea.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a component for the treatment of hair comprising a bag having at least one foraminous wall and containing fibrous or leaf like material which can be moistened by way of the foraminous wall following the application of water to the outside of the wall characterised by a hair treating material deposited on the outside of the bag.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a hair treatment method of which Figure 1 shows a cross section of a tea bag which is square in plan view; and Figure 2 shows the tea bag of Figure 1 being used to treat hair.
Figure 1 shows a conventional tea bag 11 with interior volume 11A and side walls 12, 13 of foraminous paper material containing a fibrous filling 14 of tea. The side walls 12, 13 are sealed together around periphery 15 to hold the filling 14 in place. The foraminous side walls 12,13 provide for the ready passage of water into the interior volume 11A of the bag which results in material being leached out of the filling 12 into the water which can then thereafter readily pass again out of the bag bearing the leached out material.
It has been found that the fibrous tea filling 14 contains a number of constituents which, apart from the ability to provide a drink when the bag is immersed in hot water, can subsequently serve as a hair treatment material. Thus it has been found that the moistened filling can be used to dispense, amongst other things suitable for hair treatment, colouring material.
Figure 2 shows the tea bag 11 of Figure 1 being readily manipulated by fingers 20 of a user so as to be pressed into contact with a region of hair 21 and drawn along a path 22 over the hair 21 so as to dispense from the tea bag water born material leached out from filling 14 onto the hair by way of the foraminous side walls of the bag 11.
Apart from the content of filling 14 which is suitable for hair treatment Figure 1 outlines external surface regions 12A, 13A of the tea bag 11 on one or both of which can be deposited further hair treatment material such as dyestuff, fixative, colourant or finishing material which will be deposited on hair over which the bag bearing the further treatment material during the drawing stage referred to in connection with Figure 2. One particular function is to provide for coloration of grey hair.
The exemplary embodiment makes use of a tea bag since the manufacture of such bags has been carried out on a very large scale for many decades. They are marketed in a variety of shapes including a flat packet and a tetrahedron with foraminous walls providing circulation of water into the bag and the passage out of the bag of water containing material leached out of the tea material.
In yet another version the bag can be provided in a form where it can be opened, tea inserted on the inside and the bag then sealed shut again. As before the tea solution then passes out through the foraminous walls of the bag to the outside so as to be capable of being deposited on hair over which the bag is drawn when in use.
It will be seen from the exemplary embodiments that the present invention is capable of a range of practical applications.
Claims (4)
1 A method of hair treatment comprising the steps of: selecting a foraminous bag whose contents comprise or include fibrous or leaf like material containing a colorant and/or other material suitable for treatment of hair; causing the contents to be moistened; and applying the bag to the hair and causing it to pass along a path over the hair so as result in the transfer of the colourant and/or other material to the hair.
2 A method of hair treatment as claimed in Claim 1 wherein prior to the step of applying the bag a further step is carried out comprising the deposition on the bag of a further treating material and during the subsequent step of applying the bag to the hair and causing it to pass along the path over the hair the further treating material is transferred from the bag to the hair or body.
3 A method of hair or body treatment as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the fibrous or leaf like material is, or includes, tea.
4 A method of hair treatment as hereinbefore described with reference to Figure 1 or Figure 2 of the accompanying figures.
A component for the treatment of hair comprising a bag having at least one foraminous wall and containing fibrous or leaf like material which can be moistened by way of the foraminous wall following the application of water to the outside of the wall characterized by a hair treating material deposited on the outside of the bag.
