Abstract

A bird feeder with a wide lid 1 surmounting a tube 4 which contains the feed. A hole 5 positioned just beneath the lid is used for loading the feeder. Holes 6 forming feed dispensing points are spaced evenly around the base 8. The device may be hung using a chain 3. The feeder is made from glazed terracotta and fired in one piece. The wide lid and the highly shined surface causes difficulties for any squirrel attempting to gain access to the feeder.

Description

DESCRIPTION
ANTI SQUIRREL BIRD FEEDER
Lois is designed mainly for seeds, but nuts can be used when required. It is made entirely from glazed terracotta and fired in one piece. It has a very large lid covering a long thin tube. 'there is a hole under the lid into which the seeds or nuts are fed from the scoop. Around the base of the tube are feeding holes and there is a lipped base for the birds to stand on. Inside the area is domed in order for the seeds/nuts to push forward. A chain has been inserted in the lid, that should then be hung on a double ended hook.
It has been found that when a squirrel attempts to jump on the lid it becomes unstable and it slips off equally it cannot reach the feeding holes.
