Abstract

Water turbines, mounted on platforms, are used to generate DC electricity using the power of mid-ocean currents. The DC electricity is collected and stored in batteries housed in shipping containers on a container carrier ship connected by power cable to the power generation platform. When all the batteries are charged, the container ship takes the batteries to a port of destination where the DC electricity can be converted to AC or transformed to a higher voltage. Alternatively, the batteries can be shipped on by road or rail to their final destination.

I To make non polluting electricity using the oceans currents to drive a WATER TURBINE or turbines by means ofthe water flowing through the impeller to drive a shaft connected to a DC electric generator housed in the POWER GENERATION PLATFORM. These POWER GENERATION PLATFORMS to be located all over the world extracting power from the ocean currents. Where the DC Power can be collected ready for shipment anywhere in the world.
2 The POWER GENERATION PLATFORMS, will be large enough to house all ofthe turbine and generation equipment, storage and maintenance workshops and housing facilities, for enough operation sod maintenance staff to be housed on the POWER GENERATION PLATFORM for at least one month.
3 The Platforms will be built on shore, towed by tug to its location and anchored to the ocean floor.
4 The electricity generated in mid ocean will be DC electricity.
The DC electricity will be collected and stored in batteries housed in shipping containers on a container carrier ship, which will be connected by power cable to the Power Generation Platform for transfer of power to the batteries.
6 With all the battery containers charged, the container ship can then embark on its journey to the port of destination. Where the DC electricity can be converted to AC electricity for use in the home or transformed to high voltage for transmission by high tension transmission lines. Or the container batteries can be shipped on by road or rail to their final destination.

    Power Generation Platform This invention relates to the Genetion of Electricity ir(Dirm Count Form, using the natural occurring currents of the Oceans of the World, as the driving force for Water Turbines.
    The Power Generation Platforms are Mid Ocean structures that are based upon existing technology.Namely North Sea Oil Drilling Platforms, which would be anchored in position in the oceans of the World, where the flow of the ocean current is greatest.
    Water from the ocean current flows through the turbine housing, thereby tummy the impeller ofthe turbine and extracting the hydraulic power from the ocean current This power is then transmitted through the shall up to the DC Generator; whose output of DC Elechicity is then stored in large "Bulk Container sized Batteries". When fully charged, these Batteries are then loaded onto a Bulk Storage Container ship, ready for transport, anywhere in the World.
    The batteries are now ready for use, as a permanent electricity source. In either DC form, or to be converted to AC electricity.
    After being used the batteries can be transported back to the Power Generation Platfonn for recharging The Advantage of the Power generation Platform is as follows.
    I. More Turbines can be added to the Platform if flow pennits.
  2. 2. The flow of the Oceans Current is constant, ideal for 24 hour, DC Power Generation.
  3. 3. The Water Turbine is a non-polluting means of generating electricity, with no polluting end product
  4. 4. This system is not reliant on Oil, Gas, Coal or Atomic Power. To generate electrim y.
  5. 5. As there will be many Power Generation Platforms around the World, with none reliant upon the other' for power or security, there would be no threat from terrorists.
  6. 6. One Platform being destroyed would not affect the output or the security ofthe other Platforms.
  7. 7. As the Platforms are located in mid ocean, they would be non^political world assets, owned and operated by the Company or Country that builds or leases them.
  8. 8. The platforms can be operated automatically through radio control with minimum operating and maintenance staff required
  9. 9. The end DC power in Container sized batteries can now be transported to wherever they are required.
    And connected to an existing electrical system.
  10. 10. The battery banks would be laid out in groups close to each other with interconnecting breakers for connecting and disconnecting batteries from the system.
  11. 11. To supply major cities near the ocean or on major rivers, there would be no need to of flood the ship of batteries, but simply connect directly to the ship.
    By putting Power Generating Water Turbines into the path ofthe Oceans Currents, It is possible to slow and to regulate the flow of the ocean currents, such as the Gulf Stream, which as we should all be au are' does influence the climate of our World.
    So in other words, not only could this system reduce carbon emissions from the atmosphere, because it doesn't require oil, gas or coal, it could also reduce the possibility of global warning, by talking some of the energy out ofthe currents ofthe ocean Thereby minimizing, the warming effect that ocean currents have upon the polar ice caps, .which would in turn slow the rising sea level and the subsequent climate change The Turbines used to generate the DC electricity would be ofthe Pelton Impulse type, or the Bulb-pe Turbine, with suitable housing built to guide the water flow onto the Turbine vanes.
    Tests would establish the most efficient turbine to be used for the current flow at a particular location
