Abstract
240,246. M³ller, A. H. July 1, 1924. Addition to 218,652. Towing.-The towing-apparatus of the parent Specification is modified so that the yielding support of the tug automatically copes with slight variations in the vertical distance of the towing track above the boat whilst large differences are met by a separate mechanical adjustment. The tug 1, Fig. 1, on the track 2 is universally jointed at 4 to a carrier frame 5 which is universally jointed by a rotatable bracket 7 to the vessel 8. The. bracket 7 may be mounted on an adjustable support 16. The weight of the tug is balanced by a weight such as the electromotor 10 on an arm 12, the shaft of the motor transmitting power to the tug through a flexible shaft 17. The arm 12 is pivoted to the frame 5, its adjustment being varied by a turnbuckle 15 for meeting large differences in the track height. In order to minimize strains, a spring may be inserted in the linkage carrying the turnbuckle. In a further modification, the tug 1 is coupled to the bracket 7 by two pivoted arms 5, 6, the latter being controlled by links secured to a piston h<1> in a hydraulic cylinder i. By adjustment of the valves r<1>, q<1>, m<1> and use of the pump n' suitable positive adjustment of the tug position is effected. In the system, air chambers are provided for providing a pneumatic buffer to take up shocks.
