Abstract

When installing fitted furniture, such as kitchen worktops, the wall against which the worktop is to be fitted is often irregular and may contain obstacles such as power points or wooden beams. The problem this presents is ito measure and mark accurately around such irregularities in order to cut the worktop to ensure a snug fit against the wall. This is usually a time-consuming and difficult operation. My invention solves this problem in the following manner: position the worktop against the wall to which it is to be fitted, then measure the largest gap between the worktop and the wall. Assume this to be 3 cm. Place the aid on the worktop surface against the wall. Position a pencil or biro pen point through the hole marked 3 cm and simply move the aid along the worktop, keeping it parallel to the wall. The pencil line on the worktop will be an accurate copy of the wall and only takes a few seconds. In order to draw the line in left-hand sides, the aid is reversable so simply turn it over and replace the pencil in the same hole and complete the line. The aid can be used for fitted wardrobes or cupboards or any situation where fitting work against irregular surfaces is required. The aid is simple and easy to use and is small and light in construction. The drawing illustrates the aid in actual size that will be most utilised but can be made in any size.

  1. CLAIMS THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A HAND-HELD MEASURING DEVICE THAT IS FOR MEASURING AND MARKING GAPS.
    THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF MEASURING DEVICES AVAILABLE FROM RETRACTABLE STEEL RULES TO METAL RULERS. THESE ARE, HOWEVER, FOR GENERAL USE AND NOT SPECIALISED FOR MEASURING AND MARKING GAPS.
