Abstract

A leg exercise device which can to used in a seated position stimulates blood circulation reducing the likelihood of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) caused by inactivity. The exerciser comprises a pedal A pivoted at point B and a resistance device C, eg a shock absorber, wherein the user can exercise by pressing down on the pedal with the ball of his foot forcing the pedal to pivot against the resistance of the shock absorber C. the device may include a display to count the number of exercise repetitions and display the next time the user is due to use the device. The device may include an adjustment means D to adjust the device to accommodate various leg lengths and range of ankle motion of different users. The device may be stored under the seat of a aircraft or other vehicle.

Description

Description LEG EXERCISER This Invention relates to the problem of reduced blood flow in the legs such as Deep Vein Thrombosis caused by inactivity during Aircraft, Train and Bus journeys.

The object of this invention is to provide an exercise apparatus to stimulate blood flow to the legs and so reduce the risk of circulatory problems such as deep vein thrombosis.

The apparatus must be adjustable for various leg lengths and range of ankle motion of the user.

The user places his foot on the foot plate and presses with the ball of the foot, this in turn compresses the shock absorber creating resistance, this is repeated a number of times causing an increase in blood flow.

It has to be of light weight construction to keep the effect of having large numbers of units on an Aircraft for example to a minimum.

Due to the relative lack of space on Aircraft, busses and trains it is envisaged that the unit is capable of under-seat storage.

The LEG EXERCISER includes and is joined to a motivational display which counts exercise movements, gives exercise goal and next exercise time.
