Abstract

A bait stop C is a device which prevents big or hard bait from being lost from the angling rig. Such bait is not attached directly to the hook, but to a hair. A hair is a loop of line which is attached to the end of the anglers line, and which supports the bait alongside or below the hook. The bait stop is tied directly on to the hair becoming part of the end tackle. In use the bait stop is pulled through the bait with the use of a bait needle or hook E. In the case of hard bait, the bait will need to be drilled prior to fixing to the line. It is envisaged that the bait stop will be available in differing shapes and forms to suit the types of bait being used.

Description

BAIT STOP This invention relates to a tie-on bait stop.
In angling when attaching a bait to a hook it is usual to push the hook through the bait so the bait hangs on the hook just bellow the sharp point of the hook. When using big or hard bait some anglers use what is known as a hair, (the hair is a loop of line or other material hanging down from the main line and past the hook, it extends a line down to the bait instead of just tying the bait to the hook. The bait is attached by the use of a bait needle (which is like a sewing needle with a handle) pushed through the bait and out the other side, you then put the hair or loop on to or through the eye of a bait needle and pull back through the bait exposing the hair or loop on the opposite side of the hook and by placing a piece of plastic or other material in that loop it stops the big or hard bait falling off the hair, this plastic or other material is called a BAIT STOP. The bait hangs just bellow the hook (with the hook on the outside of the bait) This allows the bait to move freely in the water for the best presentation of the bait to the fish, to make it look as natural as possible and keep the hook attached to the bait. The bait stop is used to stop ANY bait from falling of the hair, from paste bait, to boiled bait, to bread or lunchonmeat, even squid or fish for predators such as pike, zander or catfish.
The bait stop is small and sometimes difficult to hold, insert in to the loop, or even see at night this can result in dropping the bait stop on the ground.
When a fish takes the bait the bait stop can either fall of in to the water or it can be swallowed with the bait by the fish, bad for the fish and its environment.
According to the present invention there is provided a positive means of restraining a bait on a hair by means of a permanent bait stop that is tied directly on to the hair and left in place becoming part of the end tackle.
A specific non-limiting embodiment of the invention will now be described, but not limited to, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the bait stop, A top view, B side view, C engaging element (s), D connection point for the hair.
FIGURE 2 shows how to use the bait stop. (push the needle E through the bait, put the bait stop C on to the hook of the needle and pull back through the bait, then turn to stop the bait falling off the hair.) FIGURE 3 shows the bait stop in use.
FIGURE 4 shows other possible designs with hair attached and designs of bait tool to use. The bait stop (A, B) is a ring or engaging element (C) joined by a bar (D) to another ring or engaging element (C), the ring is an engaging element (C) allowing a tool, like a bait needle (E) to be used to pass through the bait and then to slide the bait on to the hair, by pulling the tie on bait stop through the bait while still attached to the hair. In-between the engaging elements (C) there is space provided (D) for the bait stop to be permanently attached to or releasable from the hair.
Although the bait stop has been specifically described as above, the device would also function as, but not limited to different shapes, thickness of materials used and sizes to suit the size of bait that is used from one piece of corn to a whole mackerel, the engaging element being a ring or other connective means. The tie shape of the constraining attachment and the engaging element may be configured in a variety of ways examples are shown-but not limited to-in FIGURE 4. one engaging element instead of two like a lollipop, with the hair attached between the ring and the stick, and using a hook instead of a needle to pull through the bait. Three engaging elements in a line, like links of a chain with the hair attached in the centre, using a hook to pull through the bait. Holes in a bar/tube with the hair attached in the centre using a hook to pull through the bait With a shape like a Z/S with space for the hair to be attached using a ring or hook to pull through the bait. A ring or oval in-side an oval and using a hook to pull through the bait Materials of construction include, but not limited to, metals, plastics, fibres or noncorrosive materials
