Abstract
A folding wardrobe includes front and rear frames, hinged folding side panels, top and bottom panels and doors all hinged to each other so that when folded, neighbouring panels are adjacent (as shown) but can be unfolded to an erected position in which they interlock without the need for any tools. Each side includes two panels with a piano hinge arranged centrally along the length. When the front frame is pulled forwards, the sides unfold and the base, hinged to the rear panel, drops between them. The top is hinged to and hangs over the rear panel and is folded up and forwards into position. The top and bottom engage slots cut in the front frame. A separate folding shelf and garment rail are included which are mounted in recesses in the frame and sides respectively.
Description
FOLDING WARDROBE
The invention relates to a folding wardrobe.
Wardrobes either come in flat pack or are fully assembled.
The advantages of a folding wardrobe are as follows : - a) Simple to assemble. b) Requires no tools to assemble. c) It comes in one single piece with a separate folding shelf and separate clothes rail. d) It takes less than three minutes to assemble. e) It can be assembled in a small area. f) It can be delivered to any difficult site due to collapsed state. i. e flats, limited access areas. g) Can be assembled by one person. h) Can be easily relocated.
The object of this folding wardrobe is to provide the customer with a wardrobe that can be easily assembled in less than three minutes, requires no tools to assemble and can be relocated easily, with minimum area required for storage.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 shows the front view of the wardrobe as a unit.
FIGURE 2 shows the placement of the top and base pieces in reference to the rear frame.
FIGURE3 shows the wardrobe base.
FIGURE 4 shows the placement of the main pieces.
FIGURE 5 shows the front frame.
FIGURE 6 shows the rear frame.
FIGURE 7 shows the left and right sides with piano hinges and spacer bar.
FIGURE 8 shows the hinged removable shelf.
FIGURE 9 shows the rear frame, top section and hinge design along with operation of the hinge.
FIGURE 10 shows the wardrobe top section.
FIGURE 11 shows the top hinged section
FIGURE 12 shows the hinged shelf.
FIGURE 13 shows the installation of the shelf.
FIGURE 14 shows the installation of the clothes rail.
FIGURE 15 shows the wardrobe fully folded.
The following instructions apply to the assembly of the wardrobe.
The customer receives the wardrobe in the collapsed state (FIGURE 15).
After the wardrobe is in the required standing position for erection, the first action is to open the wardrobe doors 9 and 10, shown in FIGURE 1.
Then the front frame 1 (FIGURE 5) is pulled forward and this expands the sides 4 and 5 (FIGURE 7).
The base of the wardrobe 7 (FIGURE 3) is then lowered down into position, as shown in FIGURE 2 and is locked into place in the slots provided as shown in FIGURE 5.
The sides are now fully extended and held in position by the base.
The top section 6 as shown in FIGURE 10 is then flipped over as shown in
FIGURE 9 and slotted in the front frame FIGURE 5.
The clothes rail is now installed as shown in FIGURE 14.
The hinged shelf, (FIGURE 12) is then slightly folded and slid into position on the shelf support 11 and 12 (FIGURE 4) and then folded out flat and locked into place by the front and rear slots (FIGURE 5 and FIGURE 6).
The wardrobe doors are closed and the wardrobe is now fully assembled and ready for use.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS A folding wardrobe comprising of a front frame, rear frame, folding side panels and a spacer unit linked so that in a folded condition, neighbouring panels are mutually adjacent but can be moved without the use of tools to an erected position in which the front and rear frames are spaced to define a wardrobe. Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS A folding wardrobe comprising a front frame, rear frame, folding side panels, top panel, base panel and doors, all connected to each other with hinges to make a one piece unit in which, in a folded condition, the panels, doors and frames are all mutually adjacent, and which can be expanded, without the use of tools. to an erected position in which the front and rear frames are spaced to define a wardrobe, the structure including a spacer bar which provides a space adjacent the rear frame in which the base panel is stored in the folded condition.
- 2 A folding wardrobe as claimed in claim 1 wherein the top and bottom panels engage in cut out portions of the front frame member in order to maintain the erected position.
