Abstract

The method comprises the steps of receiving a membership number and a password which are provided from an information provider to which a user registers himself as a member, taking a membership-confirming procedure with a membership number and a password when a user accesses to the said information provider through the Internet or information-providing telephone service, downloading members' telephone numbers from the said information provider, and storing the said received information into newly added downloaded data list-storing space on phone call list-storing space in a mobile phone.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone and, more specifically, to a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone, in which multiple telephone numbers can be stored into a mobile phone at a time by the informat ion- providing telephone service offered by an information provider or by accessing the information provider's Internet homepage and downloading a name card file.
Discussion of Related Art A conventional mobile phone is made to input names and telephone numbers by pushing buttons to save telephone numbers, since Korean alphabets, English alphabets and numerals are arranged on the buttons of a mobile phone.
For this purpose, the conventional mobile phone is made to arrange the Korean alphabet (14 consonants and 14 vowels) or English alphabet (26 characters) on the buttons of numerals 1-0, such that, about five characters are overlapped on a button.
Because the conventional mobile phone has overlapped multiple characters on a button as described above, it is configured to input different characters according to the duration, or number of times, a button is pressed.
Accordingly, it takes a long time to store telephone numbers into the conventional mobile phone and, in particular, since it is required to input telephone numbers by pushing buttons whiclj are densely arranged, it is therefore necessary to give great attention when 2- is operating the buttons, and there is a high possibility of making a mistake when operating the buttons.
Also, as mobile phones become smaller, the size of the buttons and the width between the buttons also become smaller, resulting in the operation of the buttons becoming much more difficult. In this regard, it is required to provide a method for downloading information to a mobile phone without a step of inputting information directly into a mobile phone.
SUAMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, in order to overcome such drawbacks in the conventional art, it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone, in which multiple telephone numbers can be stored into a mobile phone at a time by the information-providing telephone service offered by an information provider or by accessing the information provider's Internet homepage and downloading a name card file.
It is another object to provide a method for downloading information to a mobile phone conveniently by using a personal name card file provided from an information provider to its members and by an information- providing telephone service. This method can solve the previous inconvenience which results from inputting telephone numbers by pushing mobile phone buttons, since the telephone numbers of members. which are offered by an information provider, can be downloaded by the Internet or information-providing telephone service, and information can be downloaded conveniently whenever accessed by telephone.
To achieve these and other advantages and in accordance with the purpose of J-he present invention, as embodied and broadly described, there is provided a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone comprising the steps of:
receiving a membership number and a password which are endowed from an information provider to which a user registers himself as a member, taking a membership-confirming procedure with a membership number and a password when a user accesses the said information provider through the Internet or information-providing telephone service, downloading members' telephone numbers from the said information provider, and storing the said received information into newly added downloaded data list-storing space on phone call list-storing space in a mobile phone.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is also provided a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone, wherein, for downloading telephone numbers by information-providing telephone service, a user inputs' a membership number with a password and a mobile phone number to which the user wants to receive telephone numbers, then the telephone number can be transmitted to the mobile phone having the said mobile phone number in the form of text data.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is also a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone, wherein, for downloading telephone numbers by the Internet, a user accesses to the information provider's Internet homepage and inputs a membership number with a password and a mobile phone number to which the user wants to receive telephone numbers, then the telephone number can be transmitted to the mobile phone having the said mobile phone number in the form of text data.
According to another aspect of the invention, there is also provided a present method for is downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone, wherein, additional receiving apparatus such as an electronic organizer or a notebook computer are connected to a mobile phone through a data transmission device like a cable, a user can transmit telephone numbers, which a mobile phone has received, into said additional receiving apparatus for the same application.
According to another aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of downloading telephone numbers from an information provider to a mobile phone, whereby the information provider stores information relating to a plurality of members, the method comprising the steps of: requesting access to the information provider by inputting access data; determining whether access is allowed; and if so, downloading telephone number information relating to at least one member to a mobile phone; and, storing the received information in a dedicated area in the mobile phone.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ATTACHED DRAWINGS
A more complete appreciation of the invention., and many of the attendant advantages thereof, will be readily apparent as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings in which like reference symbols represent the same or similar components, wherein:
FIG. 1 is an outlined view for describing the downloading method of telephone numbers according to this invention; FIG. 2 is an outlined view for describing the place at which telephone numbers, which are downloaded, are stored according to this invention; FIG. 3 is an outlined view for describing the retrieval process of telephone numbers which are downloaded according to this invention; 5_ FIG. 4 is an outlined view for describing the downloading process of telephone numbers through the Internet in this invention.
FIG. 5 is an outlined view for describing how downloaded telephone numbers can be transmitted to additional receiving apparatus.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED M.180DIMENT
In order to use this invention, a user should first register himself as a member to an information provider in order to receive information for a personal name card file, and the Internet information service which -are offered by an information provider.
With regard to the inf ormat ion- providing service itself, it is noted that the applicant of the present invention has filed a patent application entitled "A name card combined with a discount card and the method for handling it" with the UK Patent Office on 12th January 2000 and the duly assigned British Patent Application No. 0000652.8 by that Office, and thus, the details of the nformation-providing service are herein incorporated by reference.
In summary, in the above mentioned application, first, a user registers himself as a member by accessing the Internet homepage which is offered by an information provider; a personal name card file, which includes the information of multiple members is provided to him; a user can use this membership information conveniently on line; a user can input information for himself as required; Also, a user can receive information which is updated by the information provider.
The present invention is concerned with how to download the information of members, provided from the information provider, to a mobile phone.
For this, an information perovider offers a personal name card fileproviding service through the Internet and 1 downloading service to a mobile phone by the Internet, as shown in Figure 1.
That is, in this invention, if a user calls the information provider (information-providing telephone service)(4) using a mobile phone(l) and inputs a membership number with a password, the telephone numbers of other members registered to the information provider can be downloaded on line.
Also, in case a user wants to download the information into another mobile phone, the user calls the information provider (information- providing telephone service)(4), inputs a membership number with a password and the mobile phone(l) number to which the telephone number will be downloaded. In this way, the user can receive the information in another mobile phone, in the same way as the information is received in the user's own mobile phone.
Also, a user can download data by accessing the information provider's Internet homepage(S) through a computer(3). When a user accesses the information provider's Internet homepage, the user is confronted with an initial screen, asking the user to input a membership number and a password as shown in FIG. 4. In the event that a user inputs the membership number and the password, the personal name card file(11) of members, which is controlled by an information provider, is made available to the user. Also, if a user inputs - a telephone number of a mobile phone, to which information is to be downloaded, for example by clicking the download button(12) which is positioned on the lower area of the screen, then the data is transmitted to the mobile phone in text form. Thus, a user can download telephone numbers into any desired mobile phone.
Alternatively, the Internet can be accessed through a mobile phone directly. In-this case, a user can directly download the information contained in a personal name card file(li) into the user's mobile phone(l), through the confirming procedure of a membership number and a password, after accessing the Internet homepage of an information provider.
The information downloaded with this method, is stored in the memory area of a mobile phone as shown in FIG. 2.
That is, if a retrieval button(2) is clicked, a retrieval window(6), or menu, which stores the calling options appears. Typically, this menu includes a recent call list, an address list, a name list and a stored voice list. However, according to the invention the menu contains an additional option of a "download data list" (7). Thus, if a user clicks a download data list(7) button as shown in FIG. 3, telephone numbers supplied by an information provider appear, so he can conveniently use the information for downloading names and telephone numbers.
Also, according to another aspect of the invention, it is possible to download the telephone number data to or from an electronic organizer or a notebook computer which is connected to a mobile phone. As shown in FIG. 5, telephone numbers transmitted to a mobile phone(l), are transmitted into additional receiving apparatus(14) such as an electronic organizer or a notebook computer using a cable, a data transmission means (13), so they can be used in the same manner.
Accordingly, in this invention, without inputting telephone numbers directly, a user can use information conveniently, which is downloaded from an information provider, so he can eliminate the burden of inputting telephone numbers by pushing buttons.
As described in the above, with this invention, a user can download multiple telephone numbers into a mobile phone at one time by_ using the informationproviding telephone service offered by an information provider or by accessing the Internet homepage of an information provider and downloading a name card file.
In conclusion, in this invention, a user can conveniently download the telephone number data to a mobile phone by using the personal name card file and the members' telephone number -providing service offered by the information provider accordingly as the user becomes a member. Thus, the user is able to input telephone numbers without pushing buttons.
The technical idea of this invention, as described above, is not limited only in the above embodiment. Also, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications can be made in "a method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone- of the present invention, without departing from the spirit of the invention. Thus, it is intended that the present invention covers such modifications as well as variations thereof, within the scope of the appended claims and their equivalents.

Claims (4)

What is claimed is:
1. A method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone comprising the steps of:
receiving a membership number and a password which are endowed from an information provider to which a user registers himself as a member, taking a membership-confirming procedure with a membership number and a password when a user accesses the said information provider through the Internet or information-providing telephone service, downloading members' telephone numbers, through downloading from the said information provider, and storing the said received information into newly added downloaded data list-storing space on phone call list-storing space in a mobile phone.
2. The method for downloading telephone number's to a mobile phone according to claim 1, wherein, for downloading telephone numbers by i nf ormat ion -providing telephone service, a user inputs a membership number with a password and a mobile phone number to which the user wants to receive telephone numbers, then the telephone number can be transmitted to the mobile phone having the said mobile phone number in the form of text data.

The method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone according to claim 1, wherein, for downloading telephone numbers by the Internet, a user accesses to the information provider's Internet homepage and inputs a membership number with a password and a mobile phone number to which the user wants to receive telephone numbers, then the telephone numbers can be transmitted to the mobile phone having the said mobile phone number in the form of text data.

The method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein an additional receiving apparatus such as an electronic organizer or a notebook computer are connected f 1-3- to a mobile phone through a data transmission device like a cable, a user can transmit telephone numbers, which a mobile phone has received, into the said additional receiving apparatus for the same application.

The method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein an additional receiving apparatus such as an electronic organizer or a notebook computer are connected to a mobile phone through a data transmission device like a cable, a user can transmit telephone numbers, which a mobile phone has received, into the said additional receiving apparatus for the same application.
5. A method of downloading telephone numbers from an information provider to a mobile phone, whereby the information provider stores information relating to a plurality of members, the method comprising the steps of:
requesting access to the information provider by inputting access data; determining whether access is allowed; and if so, downloading telephone number information relating to at least one member to a mobile phone; and, storing the received information in a dedicated'area in the mobile phone.
6. A method as claimed in claim 5, wherein the access data is a membership number and a password.
7. A method as claimed in claim 5 or 6, wherein the information provider is accessed via the Internet or an information-providing telephone service.
8. A method as claimed in any one of claim 5 to 7, wherein the information provider is accessed from a computer.
9. A method as claimed in any one of claim 5 to 7, wherein the information provider is accessed from a mobile phone.
10. A method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 9, wherein the user inputs the telephone number of the mobile phone to which the information is to be sent.
11. A method as claimed in claim 9, wherein the information provider is accessed from the mobile phone to which data is to be downloaded.
12. A method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 11, wherein the information is transferred from the information provider to the mobile phone in the form of text data.
13. A method as claimed in any one of claims 5 to 12, wherein the information stored in the mobile phone can be transferred to an auxiliary device.
14. A method as claimed in claim 13, wherein the auxiliary device is a personal organizer or a portable computer.

2. A method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone according to claim 1, wherein said received information are stored into newly added downloaded data list-storing space on phone call liststoring space in said mobile phone.

The method for downloading telephone numbers to a mobile phone according to claim 1, wherein, for downloading telephone numbers by the Internet, a user accesses to the information provider's Internet homepage and inputs a membership number with a password and a mobile phone number to which the user wants to receive telephone numbers, then the telephone numbers can be transmitted to the mobile phone having the said mobile phone number in the form of text data.
