Abstract

A real life simulation system is provided on a disk and comprises software for performing the simulation. Software is also provided to display visuals of an environment in which the simulation is running. Further means allow electronic access to text or audio information related to the simulation or environment. The simulation may be based on a PC. The information may include physically printed full colour text, data or pictures. In use the simulation software allows the user synchronous access to the simulation environment and the text or audio information. Provision is also made for a plurality of disks to be issued as a part work series to enable collections of simulations to built up.

Description

TITLE: PARTWORKS SIMULATION UPGRADES The present invention relates to the simulation of various activities. In particular it relates to a system whereby simulation is synchronised with the provision of information concerning the environment which is the subject of the simulation.
Systems for the simulation of activities such as flying, driving and boating are known for both recreational and commercial purposes. For example, flight simulation for flying including lifelike airport landing and take off is available. There is however, a need to provide a more life like environment and furthermore to couple the simulation with other information sources concerning the environment which is the subject of simulation.
For example, there may be a need to provide information concerning the history and manufacture of an aircraft whose flight is being simulated. Similarly other information such as maps, historical and geographical information concerning the environment being flown, driven or sailed through is often sought after.
The present invention therefore provides a real life simulation system comprising a disk containing the following information: i) The software required for simulation.
ii) Software to provide visuals of the environment within which the simulation is taking place.
iii) Electronic access to text and/or audio information concerning the simulation and/or the environment. The invention is particularly applicable to the provision of real life simulation of aircraft flight, road vehicle driving and marine activities. The invention may be used for recreational purposes, pilot or driver training or as sales and promotional materials.
The invention is therefore also the interaction of the information stored on the disk with a microprocessor to provide visual images of the simulation and to permit the simultaneous provision of visual images of the environment, together with the synchronised provision of the opportunity to access text and/or audio information concerning the simulation and/or the environment, including physically printed full colour text, information, data and pictures. The invention is particularly useful for use on a home or personal type "personal computer" or laptop.
The invention further lends itself to the provision of a series of disks to enable collections to be made of real life simulation of different aircraft, automobiles or boats in different environments ( known as partworks). In this manner a collection comprising a series of disks can be built up which can be particularly useful to provide a variety of readily accessible and interchangeable training and/or promotional materials.
An example of the versatility of the present invention is that it enables all pertinent information to be available for a simulated activity once the activity is chosen and relayed to the microprocessor. With the selection of the activity all the information concerning possible and suggested flight paths, all the associated scenery, all the peripheral information together with all the details of the locations involved are automatically available. Location, distance and options are all immediately available providing a comprehensive data set equal to that available for comparable real life activities.
