Abstract
A bowl 1 comprises a base, feet 2 on the base for supporting the base above a surface, and a drain hole 6 in the base. A plug 4 having a handle 5 may be provided for closing the hole 6, and a sieve 3 may be provided in the drain hole 6.
Description
".T 1 Domestic Wash and Drain Bowl 2338173 This invention relates to a
bowl which offers a draining facility.
Wash bowls on many shapes, sizes and colours are commercially available and are used principally for washing clothes and crockery, cleaning and preparing vegetables and for other domestic chores.
According to the present invention there is provided a drain hole & plug to release fluids from a bowl or similar recepticle without having to lift & tip to empty. It would normally be used within a domestic kitchen environment & placed inside the sink.
A specific embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Fig 1 Shows a view of the bowl with plug removed & filter in position. Fig 2 Shows a view of the bowl with the plug in position.
Fig 3 Shows a section through the bowl centre.
Referring to Fig 1, the bowl (1) is made from moulded plastic or any other suitable material. It is raised on feet (2) which allows fluids to drain from the bowl (1) into the sink (not shown) through the sieve (3) which sits in a hole (not shown) in the base of the bowl (1).
In Figure 2, the bowl (1) is shown with its feet (2) and with the plug (4) with its handle (5) 'on poSition to cover the hele & sieve (rot shown) in th% base of the bowl (1). The plug (4) is made of plastic, rubber or any other suitable material and may be commercially available. The handle (5), which can fold flat with the plug (4) is made of any recognised material. The handle (5) can be replaced by a nib & chain (not shown) so that the plug (4) can be easily removed when the bowl (1) is in use.
Referring to Fig 3 the bowl (1) & feet (2) are shown with the sieve (3) and plug (4) & handle (5) in position. The sectional drawing also shows the hole (6) (not shown in Figs 1 & 2) into which sits the sieve (3) & plug (4). The sieve (3) can be made of plastic or metal & can be fixed to the bowl (1) or just sit in the hole (6). The hole (6) is formed & moulded with the rest of the bowl (1). In Figs 1, 2, & 3 the hole (6) is shown at the centre of the bowl (1) but this is for illustrative purposes only, the position of the hole (6) being determined only by the need for liquids to drain when the plug (4) is removed. Similarly the bowl (1) is shown to be of circular form but in fact can be of any recognised containing shape and size.
Disabled people & those partially incapacitated and unable to lift a bowl containing water or other fluids will benefit from this invention. Those people who cannot stand at a sink with both hands free or feasibly someone who has a disability which reduces their strength to lift, including many elderly people, could wash, rinse & empty a bowl or drain the excess fluid away before removing vegetable peelings, for example, with greater ease. Able bodied persons would also benefit from this last example since a draining bowl with a plug would prevent the common problem of vegetable waste blocking a sink. When all fluids are drained off it is a simple matter to dispose of solid refuse by tipping the contents into the waste bin. Fruit & vegetables can be washed without having to use a colander and when plugged the device can be used as an ordinary wash bowl.
