Abstract

The cradle has two frames 10,11 which pivot at 12 between an open (as shown) and closed position. One frame includes a bar 15 supporting two rods 17, from whose ends a hammock-like cradle 30 is suspended. The rods are rotatable on the bar and spring-biassed into contact with it, whereby projections 18 (Fig 2) on the rods can engage cavities 16 in the bar to hold the rods perpendicular (as shown) or parallel (Fig 3) to the bar. Hooks 28 allow a swing to be attached to the bar.

Description

2336107 FOLDABLE CRADLE The invention relates to a foldable cradle.
Typical cradles comprise a f ixed support that may not be folded such that the cradles are not good for storing and transportation purposes.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a cradle having a foldable structure for allowing the cradle to be folded to a compact configuration.
According to the present invention there is provided a foldable cradle comprising a pair of frames pivotally coupled together at a pivot shaft, for allowing the frames to be rotated about the pivot shaft and to be rotated between an open position and a folded position, a first of the frames including an upper portion having a beam, wherein two rods are secured to the beam and each including two ends, a support, and means for securing the support to the ends of the rods.
The support is made of flexible woven material.
The first frame includes an upper and middle portion having two pairs of ears for securing the pivot shaft, a second of the frames includes at least one positioning bar for engaging with the first frame and for maintaining the frames at the open position.
The beam includes two fasteners, the rods are slidably engaged on the fasteners, and means for biasing the rods to engage with the beam. The rods each includes at least one projection for engaging with the beam and for positioning the rods to the beam. In the drawings:FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a foldable cradle; 05 FIG. 2 is a partial cross sectional view taken along lines 2-2 of FIG. 1; and FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing another application of the foldable cradle. Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a foldable cradle comprises a pair of frames 10, 11 pivotally coupled together at a pivot shaft 12, for allowing the frames 10, 11 to be folded to a compact configuration and for allowing the frames 10, 11 to be opened to form a stable base. The frame 10 includes two pairs of ears 101 provided on the upper and middle portion for securing the pivot shafts 12. The frames 10, 11 include a rectangular shape, for example. The frame 11 includes one or two positioning bars 110 for engaging with the frame 10 and for retaining the frames 10, 11 at an open position (FIGS. 1 and 3). The frame 10 includes a beam 15 and two rods 17 secured to the beam 15. The beam 15 and the rods 17 form a supporting plane for supporting a support 20 which is preferably made of flexible woven material that includes four corners each having a hook or a loop 32 or other engaging member for securing to the end portions of the rods 17 and for allowing the support 20 to be secured to the frame 10.
As shown in FIG. to the beam 15 by such lock nuts 22. The rods for slidably engaging 05 allowing the rods 17 2, two fasteners 20 are secured as threaded engagement and/or by 17 each includes an orifice 171 with the fasteners 20 and for to be moved upward and downward along the fasteners 20. Two springs 24 are engaged with the fasteners 20 and the rods 17 for biasing the rods 17 toward the beam 15. The rods 17 includes one or more projections 18 for engaging with two or more cavities 16 of the beam 15 and for preventing the rods 17 from rotating relative to the beam 15, and for securing the rods 17 at a perpendicular (or working) position (FIG. 1) or a parallel (or folding) position (FIG. 3) relative to the beam 15.
is As shown in FIG. 3, when the rods 17 are folded to engage with the beam 15, another support, such as a infant chair 38 may be coupled to two hooks 28 of the beam 15 by the hooks or loops 39.
The frames 10, 11 may be folded to a compact 20 configuration which is excellent for storing and transportation purposes. In addition, the soft support 20 may comfortably support the baby. The parents may hold the baby directly with the support 20, when the baby fall asleep, without disengaging the support 20 from the baby, such that the baby will not be disturbed. The rods 17 may also be folded to the storing positions.
