Abstract

Roulette betting layouts like those in the drawings permit combination betting within the same area of the layout as single number betting. The layout eases the croupier's task in collecting lost bets.

Description

BOARD LAYouT FOR ROUIENE GAME DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a betting layout for the Roulette game.

Since its development, Roulette has been played using a betting layout known as the "tableau". The concept underlying my invention consists in replacing its traditional 12 rows and 3 parallel columns of numbers by a round betting layout emulating the Roulette wheel. The reasons become apparent from the Claims.

Except for a central area, the new layout is divided by concentric lines into adjacent circular or oval rings. These, again, are subdivided by radial lines into sectors on which different bets can be placed. One of the rings has 36 sectors containing all numbers of the wheel except for Zero which is located in the central area. On these sectors and the central area the players can bet on individual numbers including Zero ("plein"), whereas in the remaining sectors the numbers from 1 to 36 are grouped together in different ways (variants), making use of the divisibility of 36 and its factors, such as to allow combination bets on two ( cheval" > three, four ("carrét), and more numbers.

Even though this description is meant to cover all kinds of round -- including circular -- shapes, the distinctive, scaleable oval shown in the enclosed drawing is the only one to meet several technical requirements of the Roulette game. It has been calculated to fit all tables currently in use when screen-printed in natural size on the cloth, combining sufficient ,,safety distance" from the table edges with best possible work ergonomics for the dealer, and adequate perimeter length. Thus, the 36 ,,plein" fields on the peripheral ring -- despite their different shapes and sizes will accommodate stacks of practically all kinds of gambling chips, wheel checks, European ,,jetons" and even "plaques". This would not be the case if the perimeter were shorter or if one of the internal rings were used. A narrow ring with small auxiliary numbers facilitates identification of the ,,plein" field numbers in case they were covered by chips. The oval's shape, in addition, compensates for optical distortion caused by the radial dividing lines.

This oval, as well as other round shapes, can be subdivided in many different ways; figures 1. to 3. are examples of the conceivable variants.

Claims

CLAIMS 1. The characteristic subdiuision of my layout - in itself a novelty - permits a number of unique combination bets (i.e. by using one single chip) not possible on the traditional .tableau".
2. Experience shows that many gamblers tend to bet on certain "lucky numbers" and their ,,neighbors" on the Roulette wheel. Since my layout emulates the wheel, such bets require fewer chips than on the ,,tableau" where most neighbors" are located far apart. Consequently, players favouring neighbor bets" can make their capital last longer.
3,Due to the deliberate omission of simple chances" such as Red/Black or Even/Odd, my layout encourages bets on single numbers and their combinations. This tends to give a higher profit to the Casino.
4. Persons not experienced in the game frequently have difficulties in understanding the subtleties of traditional "tableau". My layout is selfexplanatory and extremely easy to use.
5. The improved ergonomics of my layout reduce the physical strain on the dealer. The raking-in of the lost chips becomes easier, allowing faster gambling action.
