Abstract

An all-in-one aerodynamic garment/body suit for equestrian activities/sports; having a wind-drag reduction fabric coated in a waterproofing substance. The apparel is equipped with anti-slip padding and protection on the medial aspect of the lower limb (2), an aerohood (1), anti-slip material or grip on the palm regions of the suit (4), feet and ankle protection ((3) and (6) respectively), as well as a heel (5). The garment must accomodate sport compulsory and legal requirements, which are to be worn beneath the all-in-one garment. Entrance to the suit is via a zip (7) situated on the anterior side of the upper body. The garment reduces the wind drag of the jockey, reducing the energy expenditure of the racehorse, thus improving performance.

Description

AERODYNAMIC CLOTHING FOR JOCKEYS/RIDERS IN EOUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES This invention relates to an aerodynamic all-in-one garment for use by jockeys/riders in equestrian activities.

All-in-one aerodynamically efficient garments are used by many competitors in a variety of sporting and leisure activities. Many of these garments involve the use of wind-drag reducing fabrics such as lycra. No such apparel has been developed for jockeys/riders in equestrian sports and activities. Indeed, the jockey in the sport of horseracing wears the same garments when riding in horseraces, as the jockeys of the 1780s.

According to the present invention, there is provided an all-in-one aerodynamically improved garment for use by the jockey/rider in equestrian sports and activities, comprising a wind-drag reducing fabric.

The fabric may be coated in a waterproofing substance.

The garment preferably includes anti-slip padding on the inside of the lower limb.

An aerohood is included as part of the all-in-one garments The suit may provide protection for the feet and ankle regions.

The garment may have anti-slip material on the palm regions.

AERODYNAMIC CLOTHING FOR JOCKEYS/RIDERS IN EOUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing (Figure 1).

Referring to the drawing the all-in-one aerodynamic garment for equestrian jockeys/riders comprises an aerohood (1). The aerohood must be of sufficient size to accommodate the compulsory skull cap which is worn on the head.

The garment also comprises of anti-slip padding (2) on the medial aspect of the lower limbs. The anti-slip material may take the form of suede or rubber. This aspect of the garment will provide friction between the limbs of the jockey/rider and the horse and thus prevent the horse from 'running off' with the rider, as well as providing protection from rubbing tack.

Feet and ankle protection (3) is also comprised in the invention. Such protection will take the form of a boot made from rubber or plastic, situated within the allin-one suit, so as to provide protection from the irons (stirrups) of the saddle, and to keep wind-drag to a minimum.

Anti-slip material (4) may be provided on the palm regions of the garment in order to prevent the reins of the bridle from slipping through the hands of the rider, thus providing more control. The anti-slip material may take the form of a rubber or plastic substance.

The all-in-one garment comprises of a heel (5) on the sole region of the suit. This will prevent the iron (stirrup) of the saddle from slipping too far back on the foot.

The all-in-one aerodynamic garment is comprised of a hard flat sole (6) which will protect the sole of the jockey's/rider's feet from the iron (stirrup). The sole will be of a rubber or plastic material.

Entrance to the all-in-one garment will be via a zip or velero, fastening attachment (7) which may run from the waist to the neck, on the anterior region of the upper body.

The only region of the body that the all-in-one aerodynamic suit will expose, or fail to cover, will be the facial region (8).

The all-in-one garment for jockeys/riders in equestrian sports and activities comprises of an aerodynamic wind-drag reducing material, which may be lycraspandex (9).

In order to comply with the regulations and rules of the British Horseracing Board, the Jockey Club and the Federation Equestrian Internationale (F.E.I.) the invention must be worn over a compulsory skull cap and body protector, and thus must accommodate these items.

Claims

1. An all-in-one aerodynamically efficient garment/suit for jockeys in equestrian activities/sports, comprising a winddrag reducing fabric coated in a waterproof and breathable substance; anti-slip padding on the inside of the lower limbs; an aerohood; protection for the foot and ankle; and anti-slip material on the palm regions of the suit.

2. An all-in-one aerodymic garment/suit for jockeys in equestrian sports/activities, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the entrance to the garment/suit is via a zip situated on the anterior side of the upper body (from the waist to the neck).

3. An all-inone aerodynamic garment for riders/jockeys in equestrian sports/activities, as claimed in claim 1 or 2.

4. An all-in-one aerodynamic garment constructed and arranged substantially as described herein and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
